The "rate 30000" setting cannot be changed; if set to 50000 or higher, it reverts to 30000.

This is most likely not a NextClient problem. The rate value is kept in the registry, and the engine restores it from there at every startup, so it comes back to whatever is stored there; 30000 is the engine's own default. That registry value is also shared with any other cs 1.6 installation on the machine.

The game only writes the current rate back to the registry when it exits normally, so if it crashed or was killed through the task manager, your change is simply lost. That is a likely explanation here. Please attach the launcher.log file from your game folder so I can check whether there were any crashes.

For testing purposes, try setting the rate via the registry, with the game closed:
reg add "HKCU\Software\Valve\Steam" /v Rate /t REG_SZ /d 50000 /f

And please let me know whether it reverts immediately in the same session or only after a restart.
