ModelAnalyzeRule stripped the MDL catalog/schema prefix from column names with a substring replace. A derived name that embeds that prefix (for example a string literal) then no longer matched the input schema, so planning failed.
The Wren View branch now rewrites only the qualifier and leaves the column name intact.
Adds a transform test that fails without the fix: SELECT * FROM (SELECT 'test.test.x' FROM test.test.customer) t.
cargo test -p wren-semantic-core --lib mdl::test::test_derived_literal_column_keeps_catalog_prefix_in_name fails on main (FieldNotFound for Utf8("x")) and passes with this change.
Summary by CodeRabbit
Bug Fixes
Column-name prefixes are now removed only when they appear outside double-quoted text, preserving catalog- or schema-like text embedded in names derived from string literals. Queries selecting these columns from derived tables can resolve the expected names and execute correctly. Column names without a matching prefix, and names processed with an empty prefix, remain unchanged. This behavior applies to both column-name rewriting paths.
The analyzer now removes MDL catalog/schema prefixes only outside double-quoted text when it rewrites column names. A regression test checks a derived literal column whose name contains the prefix.

Summary
Preserve names and verify query core/wren-core/core/src/logical_plan/analyze/model_anlayze.rs, core/wren-core/core/src/mdl/mod.rs
Both column-rewrite paths use quote-aware prefix removal. A regression test checks that a nested query with a derived literal column transforms and produces executable SQL matching the expected snapshot.
Queries with an embedded quote in a derived literal column name can fail to plan. This narrow case should be fixed or explicitly accepted before merging.
Security architecture risk: Low · up to ca5dc
The change preserves quoted column-name content while continuing to normalize catalog qualifiers. No new data-access path was identified, though the wider authorization environment was not assessed.
Retained concerns
No architecture-level concerns identified.
Security review details
Security Blast Radius
inferred — The demonstrated effect is limited to identifiers in analyzed SQL; the inspected rewrite introduces no new relation or privileged-data path. Maximum runtime and tenant exposure remains unverified.
Trust Boundaries and Controls
observed — Qualified non-MDL columns pass through without the MDL qualifier rewrite; authorization enforcement beyond this analyzer was not established.

The description explains the failure, identifies the affected code path, provides the reproduction query and observed FieldNotFound error, and documents a regression test. The duplicate check section is not included, but the description is otherwise sufficiently complete.
Full details: Linked Issues check
Explanation
The changes satisfy the coding requirements in #2772. ModelAnalyzeRule now uses strip_catalog_prefix_outside_quotes in both identified column-rewrite paths. The helper removes the MDL prefix outside quotes and preserves it in derived names such as Utf8("test.test.x"). The added transform test covers the reported nested query and verifies executable output with the prefix preserved.

The changes remain within #2772. The implementation updates the two analyzer paths named by the issue, and the test covers the reported regression. No unrelated implementation or test changes are shown.

Thanks for tracking this down — the regression test reproduces #2772 exactly, and I confirmed the fix also covers the real Wren-view shape (select c_name || 'test.test.z' from test.test.customer, queried via select * from test.test.v), which fails on main and passes here.
Blocking: the quote-tracking introduces a regression for literals containing an odd number of ".
DataFusion's Debug for ScalarValue::Utf8 writes Utf8("<raw>") without escaping inner quotes, so in_quotes desynchronises. Both of these work on main and fail on this branch (ModelAnalyzeRule … Schema error: No field named …):
SELECT*FROM (SELECT'a"'|| c_name FROMtest.test.customer) t
-- view v = select 'a"' || c_name from test.test.customerSELECT*FROMtest.test.v
On main the blind replace produces Utf8("a"") || customer.c_name, which matches the rewritten input. Here the third " flips in_quotes to true, so test.test.customer.c_name is left untouched and the lookup misses. ('a"' || 'test.test.x' fails on both branches, so that one is not a regression, just a case neither approach handles.)
Because the name format is ambiguous, I don't think any string-only heuristic can be made correct. Suggestion: stop guessing and resolve against the rewritten input schema, which map_column_and_rewrite_qualifier already receives as schema but never uses in the Expr::Column arm. In the view/derived-table branch, try the unmodified name first; only if schema has no such field (bare relation.table() qualifier), fall back to the prefix-stripped name. That keeps every case above working: the derived-literal name exists as-is in the schema, while sum(test.test.customer.c_custkey) does not and resolves via the stripped form. Threading schema into rewrite_column_qualifier is the only signature change needed.
Please also add the 'a"' || c_name shape (derived table and view) to the tests so the regression stays covered.
Minor
The PR description says the view branch "now rewrites only the qualifier and leaves the column name intact". The diff still substring-rewrites the column name (quote-aware); please update the description so it matches what landed after the second commit.
strip_catalog_prefix_outside_quotes is inside impl ModelAnalyzeRule but not indented; cargo fmt --check fails on core/wren-core. Not a CI gate, but worth a cargo fmt.
Verification: cargo test -p wren-semantic-core --lib mdl::test (82 passed) and cargo clippy --all-targets --all-features -- -D warnings clean on this branch; the cases above were run as an ad-hoc integration test against both this branch and origin/main.
ModelAnalyzeRule stripped the MDL catalog/schema prefix from column names
with a substring replace. A derived name that embeds the prefix, such as a
string literal, then no longer matched the input schema and planning failed.
Drop the prefix only by rewriting the qualifier, and leave the name intact.
FixesCanner#2772
A blind replace fixed view columns such as sum(wrenai.public.X) but also
rewrote that prefix inside a derived literal name (Utf8("test.test.x")).
Strip the prefix only outside double quotes so both paths match their
input schema.

Use schema-aware fallback for derived column names.
DataFusion 55.1 formats an embedded quote in a Utf8 name without escaping it. For a"test.test.x, the helper changes quote state at the embedded quote, removes test.test., and produces a name different from the input schema. Outer resolution can then fail with FieldNotFound.
Do not preserve every name that already exists in the input schema. The qualified Wren View branch intentionally removes prefixes from names such as sum(wrenai.public.X), and the unqualified branch also handles rebase names that require qualifier rewriting. Instead, compare the original and rewritten column references using the applicable schema and qualifier: preserve the original only when the rewritten reference does not resolve.
