Code for an analysis of rainfall across the wheatbelt in Australia.
The Australian Bureau of Agricultural and Resource Economics and Sciences (ABARES) defines a set of Australian broadacre zones and regions. (Download shapefiles here.)
The last four very dry years across the "wheat-sheep" region line up really well with the last four times Australia had to import grain (1994-95, 2002-03, 2006-07, 2019-20; see ABC, Guardian).
The shapefile used for defining the wheat-sheep region was created in define_regions.ipynb.
The base analysis (model and AGCD data processing, bias correction, fidelity and independence testing)
was conducted by running the Makefile in the root directory of this repository:
$ make all CONFIG=config_files/workflow_config.mk SUB_REGION=all
$ make independence-test CONFIG=config_files/workflow_config.mk SUB_REGION=south-west
$ make independence-test CONFIG=config_files/workflow_config.mk SUB_REGION=south-east
$ make independence-test CONFIG=config_files/workflow_config.mk SUB_REGION=north-eastNotebooks (ag_analysis_*.ipynb) with an analysis presented in logical order
can then be generated by running the same Makefile:
$ make final_analysis CONFIG=config_files/workflow_config.mk SUB_REGION=all
$ make final_analysis CONFIG=config_files/workflow_config.mk SUB_REGION=south-west
$ make final_analysis CONFIG=config_files/workflow_config.mk SUB_REGION=south-east
$ make final_analysis CONFIG=config_files/workflow_config.mk SUB_REGION=north-eastEach output image file has the command history embedded in the image metadata.
It can be viewed by installing exiftool (e.g. $ conda install exiftool)
and then running the following at the command line:
$ exiftool path/to/image.png
