Summary

Unsent messages already land in Drafts when you close Compose. This adds a delete control on each row so you can remove one without sending it or emptying the composer.

Changes

The trash button is a sibling of the mail row, not a child, so the row's accessible name stays sender, subject, and date.

deleteDraft reuses removeScopedDraft and the existing session save. If that draft is open, it cancels the autosave timer and closes the composer so a later tick cannot write the draft back.

Reply drafts now carry data-draft-thread so focus can find the rebuilt row.

Test plan

  • Compose a new message with a subject, close it, open Drafts. A trash control appears on the row and is labeled Delete draft.
  • Leave two drafts. Delete one. The other stays and the folder count drops by one.
  • Delete the last draft. The empty-folder copy appears and the rail count is 0.
  • Open a draft from the folder, then delete that row. The composer closes and the draft does not come back.
  • Open Inbox and Reply on an existing thread. The rest of the mailbox should look the same.

📝 Walkthrough

Walkthrough

Draft rows now include a delete control. Draft writes are serialized. Deleting a draft persists its removal and refreshes the Drafts mailbox. If the draft is open, the composer closes. If persistence fails, the prior draft state is restored. English and Spanish translations are added. Tests cover deletion behavior, save failures, and write ordering.

Priority: ⬇️ Low

Merge Risk: 🟡 Moderate · up to abce5

Deleting an open reply draft can leave its attachments available to a later reply. Fix that privacy risk before merging. The reply-draft focus regression also needs a localized correction.

🔒 Security & Privacy | 🟠 Major | ⚡ Quick win

Clear attachments when deleting the open draft.

If the open draft has a ready attachment, this branch closes the composer but leaves state.attachments intact. A later startReply() does not clear that array, and sendEmail() includes readyAttachments(). The reply can send an attachment from the deleted draft. Clear attachments as part of closing the deleted draft.

Failed session saves restore the draft. Deleting an open new message also clears attachments.

🟡 Minor · Prefer the thread selector for reply drafts. · app.js:1671-1673

public/app.js:1671-1673
🎯 Functional Correctness | 🟡 Minor | ⚡ Quick win

Prefer the thread selector for reply drafts.

The session save route accepts draft objects without normalizing their IDs. When an identified reply draft is opened, composeOpenerSelector stores only the ID selector. Saving the reply then replaces it with a draft without that ID. The rebuilt row keeps data-draft-thread, but the stored ID selector no longer matches it. Focus falls back to the toolbar instead of the draft row.

Suggested fix

Review comment at @public/app.js around lines 1671 - 1673:
Update composeOpenerSelector to check for a mail row’s draft thread before its
draft ID, so reply drafts store a selector that still matches the rebuilt row
after saving. Preserve the draft-ID selector as the fallback for rows without a
draft thread.
