Summary

Learners can now forward an email, which covers the PRD's "forward with a cover note" scenario. Each message has a Forward button next to Reply and Reply all, and the thread footer has one that forwards the latest message. Forward opens a new message with a Fwd: subject and the To field focused. The original appears as a read-only preview under the cover-note editor.

Changes

  • The original is stored as structured data, not pasted into the body. The sent email gets a forwarded copy of the source email's headers, body, attachments, and any nested forward. The editable body stays the cover note, so Cosmo inserts, quick actions, and draft provenance still work on what the learner wrote.
  • The server builds the copy. The client sends forwardOf: { threadId, emailId }, and /api/email/send looks that email up in the session. An unknown reference returns 400.
  • A forward always starts a new thread. Any threadId the client sends is ignored. The recipient's character then sees only what was forwarded, not the rest of the source conversation.
  • All readers use the same helpers in lib/forwarding.js:
    • the reading pane
    • the character agent (both the thread context and the email it is answering)
    • Cosmo's mailbox context, which also says when the composer holds a forward and labels forward drafts
    • the extract-conversations.js report
  • Characters get attachment names only. That matches their prompt ("you did not receive any attached file"). Cosmo gets the text of seeded attachments, as it already does for inbound mail.
  • Forward drafts are ordinary new-message drafts that carry forwardOf. They show in Drafts and keep their link to the original when reopened. The prefilled Fwd: subject alone doesn't count as an edit, so Cosmo won't ask to replace the draft.
  • Accessibility:
    • The per-message button group is now labelled "Message actions" (it was "Reply options").
    • The composer preview scrolls, is keyboard-focusable, and is labelled "Forwarded message".
    • Closing the composer returns focus to the Forward button that opened it.
  • New English and Spanish strings: Forward, Forwarded message, From, Date.

Testing

  • npm test adds tests for:
    • the forwarding helpers and Cosmo context (tests/forwarding.test.js)
    • the send API: new thread, server-built copy, draft cleanup, unknown email rejected
    • the UI: accessible names, the composer preview, saving and reopening drafts, the send payload, how the sent email renders, focus return
    • the report export
  • Manual check with npm run dev:
    1. Open a thread and click Forward on a message.
    2. Confirm the Fwd: subject and the original under the editor.
    3. Pick a character, write a note, and send.
    4. The new thread in Sent shows the note with the quoted original below it, and the character's reply arrives in that thread.

📝 Walkthrough

The change adds forward actions to the mail UI and supports forward drafts with a source-email reference. Sending a forward creates a new thread containing a snapshot of the source email. Forwarded content, including nested forwards and attachments, is rendered in the UI and included in assistant and conversation-extraction context. English and Spanish catalogs add forwarding labels, and tests cover composition, sending, rendering, accessibility, and extraction.
