feat(onboarding): rebuild the first run as a journey with a background scan - #999
The first run was ten settings screens in a straight line: it set the app up but showed nothing of what it can do, and most users never open Settings, so plugins, enrichment, analysis or the mini-player went unnoticed. This rebuilds it as a journey, then keeps teaching after it.
Getting started (2 screens): welcome, language and the Default profile's name on one screen, then the music folder (picker or drop, through a new LibraryContext.addFolder). The scan starts at once in the background; its progress (scan:progress) stays in the header for the rest of the journey. A drop during the journey only offers to import.
Make WaveFlow yours (5 screens), each made of feature cards switched in one click through the same commands and hooks as Settings, defaults from settingsRegistry:
Look: skin and theme; on a Linux Wayland session only, a Windows card offering XWayland (the Settings choice, shared as useXwaylandChoice).
Lyrics: where to store them, and lyrics sources from the store.
Extensions: the store's official, compatible plugins, grouped by registry tag in two balanced columns and installed in place. The catalogue is read only when that screen is reached; offline or unreachable, the cards stay a presentation pointing at Extensions.
Connections: Last.fm, Discord (on by default, can be switched off), the WaveFlow server, and MusicBrainz library enrichment (the Settings switch, shared as useEnrichmentSwitch, off by default).
Done: start playing or open the library, a card that opens Settings, and the player bar tour offer.
First steps on Home, in both layouts: eight discoveries (immersive view, mini-player, desktop lyrics, smart playlist, enrichment, tag workshop, Wrapped, installing a plugin), ticked where the feature is used and pre-ticked once from an existing profile's data. Two one-time tips (empty lyrics panel, batch tag editing). State flags stay out of settingsRegistry, so they never count in Settings' "n modified".
Player bar tour: one control at a time, found through a data-tour attribute on 12 controls, so a skin without a control skips it. Flat veil with a cut-out, x / n counter, Next / Skip, portalled, useModalA11y. Shown once per profile; the tour ticks nothing, only real use does.
Settings > General can run the journey and the tour again; with a library already there, the journey skips the folder and the scan.
FeatureCard / FeatureArt are shared components, meant for a later What's new panel. Motion is transform / opacity only, frozen under reduced motion and reduced effects.
Copy: 17 locales complete, dead onboarding.* keys removed. Four existing strings that described a feature by naming another player are rewritten (Studio skin, embedded-tag lyrics hint, cover action, Wrapped banner).
Docs: the Onboarding section of docs/features/ui.md (which still described eight steps) is rewritten, with First steps, the tips and the tour; storage.md lists the new flags.
No Rust change.
How I tested
typecheck, lint (only the existing ImmersiveView warning), prettier.
Sandbox build driven through CDP, on a copy of 28 tracks:
new profile end to end: rename, background scan, crossfade / AutoMix / ReplayGain written and applied, a plugin installed from the Extensions screen, enrichment switched on and off, Start playing locks onboarding.dismissed;
offline mode, running the journey again, an existing profile (First steps pre-ticked from its data), a one-time tip;
the tour in Studio, Fluid and Liquid (9 stops with a track loaded, 8 without), Escape, focus, reduced effects, relaunch from Settings;
the Wayland card with a mocked display-backend status.
Grouped test by the maintainer in a sandbox build, validated after one round of changes.
Not verified: a real Wayland session, a real native drag and drop, the one-column Extensions layout on a narrow window, the tour in Pulse, Editorial and Lounge, Arabic (RTL).

…d scan
The first run was ten screens in a straight line that set the app up but
showed nothing of what it can do, and most users never open Settings.
- Getting started: welcome, language and the profile's name on one screen,
then the music folder (picker or drop). The scan starts at once in the
background and stays in sight in the header for the rest of the journey.
- Make WaveFlow yours: look, listening, lyrics, extensions and connections,
one screen each, made of feature cards switched in a click through the
same commands as Settings. The store's official, compatible plugins are
grouped by registry tag and installed in place; offline they stay as a
presentation pointing at Extensions.
- Done: start playing or open the library.
- Home gets a First steps card in both layouts, ticked at the point of use
and pre-ticked from existing profiles' data; two one-time tips; and
Settings > General can run the journey again.
The feature cards are a shared component, meant for the What's new panel.
…he journey
- Extensions: the usage cards fill two balanced columns, each card going
to the shorter one, so the lyrics sources leave no hole beside Canvas.
- Connections: MusicBrainz library enrichment, the Settings switch through
the shared hook, off by default; offline it only presents itself.
- Look: on a Linux Wayland session only, a card that explains the windows
and offers XWayland through the Settings choice.
- Done: the player bar tour offer and a card that opens Settings.
- The Studio skin description and the embedded-tag lyrics hint no longer
name other players, in all 17 locales.
…ir own terms
The cover action and the automatic Wrapped banner were explained by
pointing at another player. They now say what they do, in all 17
locales.

Walkthrough

Cartes, conseils et visite du lecteur src/components/discovery/*, src/components/common/BatchTagEditModal.tsx, src/components/layout/LyricsPanel.tsx, src/components/layout/Sidebar.tsx, src/components/player/*, src/components/views/HomeView.tsx, src/components/views/home/fluid/FluidHome.tsx, src/components/views/WrappedView.tsx

Merge Risk: Minimal · up to 16801
No actionable merge-blocking risk is established by the supplied evidence.
Security architecture risk: Low · up to 16801
The reviewed paths retain existing plugin-installation, connection, and scan controls. No new privilege bypass was established, but recovery across overlapping imports, profile changes, and reopening the journey is not fully demonstrated.
Retained concerns
No architecture-level concerns identified.
Security review details
Security Blast Radius
inferred — The reviewed entrypoints reach desktop filesystem imports, profile-library persistence, plugin installation, and external integration credentials. They make existing capabilities available earlier in the user journey; the inspected routing does not establish a new remotely callable service or a new installation authority.
Trust Boundaries and Controls
observed — The onboarding catalogue narrows presentation to official, compatible entries. Installation still crosses the existing backend registry boundary, which checks plugin IDs, offline mode, registry membership, compatibility, and download URL/redirect safety before staging. Settings already exposes the same installer.
observed — Last.fm connection remains an explicit action requiring credentials and uses the existing backend login checks, including offline rejection. Enrichment is changed through the shared opt-in switch, while Discord is read before being changed through an explicit toggle.
Resilience and Maintainability Implications
observed — Scan cancellation is enforced by the backend task flag, not the onboarding progress strip. A cancelled scan skips the missing-track sweep, and the command suppresses follow-on automatic analysis and enrichment. Misclassified journey progress therefore does not itself remove these failure-containment controls.
Hardening Proposals
proposed — For stronger ownership and recovery guarantees, correlate background work with explicit profile and operation identities, preserve authoritative terminal outcomes across remounts, and reject stale continuations before later commands. This is design hardening, not a verified new cross-profile write vulnerability.

…layer that opened
- A switch card is now a button laid over the card rather than around it,
named by its title and described by its benefit: what a switch holds is
presentational, so an enrichment error inside it was never announced.
- The scan strip announces its outcome only, not every tick of the count.
- First steps ticks the mini-player once its window has opened or shown.

The strip left the page on the folder screen, so a scan ending there
brought the region back with its result already in it, which a screen
reader may not announce. The region now stays mounted and only the drawn
strip follows the screen.
