Before: a clean but generic layout: a UFO illustration in the hero, emoji icons on cards, plain light page headers, centered pill tags.

After: a darker, editorial "space agency" look. The home page has a large title, a CSS-drawn Mars with orbits, and a live Mars clock (MTC, Mars Sol Date, UTC). Below that come the latest update as a banner, three numbered "what we do" columns, six featured archive tiles with "All archives", a numbered list of research topics, and a dark "Support us" band. Every inner page gets a dark starfield header. Cards use matching line icons instead of emoji, the activity log is grouped by year, and the footer is new. Light and dark system themes both still work, and the space sections stay dark in both.

All content, data files, both languages and every URL are unchanged: the build produces the same 19 HTML pages as before.

How: assets/css/main.css is rewritten and the home, archives, activities and footer templates are restructured. A new partials/icon.html maps each data file's emoji to an inline SVG, so the data files themselves don't change. The clock is a small addition to main.js using the Mars24 formula with TAI−UTC = 37 s. Space Grotesk and JetBrains Mono (both SIL OFL, latin subset, about 44 KB in total) are self-hosted in static/fonts, and Chinese text uses the system CJK fonts. Hosting cost is still zero.

Shared kit. The shared part of the design is also published as the InterImm kit, so other sites link it instead of copying it:

  • https://interimm.org/kit/interimm.css covers tokens, fonts, header, footer, buttons, cards and page headers. Source: assets/kit/interimm.css.
  • https://interimm.org/kit/interimm.js runs the menu. It also fills in a page's header and footer from nav.cn.json / nav.en.json, which are generated from hugo.yaml and data/footer.yml.
  • https://interimm.org/kit/ is a style guide, and kit/README.md has the usage notes.

assets/css/main.css now keeps only the main site's own layouts, and the main site still looks the same. InterImm/interplanetary-logistics#4 and InterImm/martian-cities#12 switch those sites to the kit and should merge after this PR.

New home page (big hero with a CSS Mars, live Mars clock, numbered
pillars, featured archive tiles, topic list, support band), dark space
headers on every inner page, line icons in place of emoji, a year-grouped
activity timeline, a new footer, and self-hosted Space Grotesk and
JetBrains Mono. Content, data files, languages and URLs are unchanged.

Splits the shared part of the stylesheet (tokens, fonts, header, footer,
buttons, cards, page headers) into assets/kit/interimm.css, moves the
header behaviour into assets/kit/interimm.js, and publishes both at stable
URLs together with nav.cn.json / nav.en.json generated from the menu and
footer data. Other InterImm sites link these instead of copying them, and
interimm.js can fill their header and footer from the live menu. Adds a
style guide at /kit/ and kit/README.md. The main site looks the same.
