Adds planner-managed backward-state retention, CPU offload and replay, bounded gradient staleness, managed output tensors, and checkpoint-owned live parameters/modules. Rank-zero and logical-DP views support the paired Caladan client API.
At
2e1281ac, CPU CI passes 1,519 Megatron and 3,925 unit tests; GPU CI passes 596 tests plus CP=2/TP=2 correctness checks. Skips remain explicit in the original runs. Focused snapshot, ownership and test-consolidation checks also pass.Earlier Qwen3-8B throughput deltas remain −12.1% at 4×1K and −4.5% at 4×4K. Draft for API review, validation and further size reductions.
