Chart palette colours and muted axis labels render correctly again across the dashboard. A theme block pointed at chart variables that do not exist and overrode the working definitions.

Fixed

  • Axis labels on every chart use the muted label colour instead of the body text colour.
  • bg-chart-1 to bg-chart-5 no longer render transparent, so the AI trace tree's embedding and span markers are visible.
  • text-chart-1 to text-chart-5 no longer fall back to the surrounding text colour, so the report loading icons show their colours.

Internal

  • The overview-siblings e2e spec matches the current realtime page and insights filters; five of its tests were failing on main.

Summary by CodeRabbit

  • Tests
    • Updated realtime overview checks to verify key titles and the Events region, and refined the insights search-field check.
    • Filter checks now cover the Time window, Severity, and Direction controls, verify URL parameters, and confirm that search and URL state persist after reload.
  • Style
    • Updated chart theme styling to use named visual properties for backgrounds, labels, tooltips, and other chart elements.

A theme block added with the bklit charts pointed at variables named
`----chart-1` and so on, which do not exist, and it overrode the working
definitions. bg-chart-1..5 came out transparent, text-chart-1..5 fell back to
the surrounding text colour, and chart axis labels used the body colour
instead of the muted one.

Axis labels on every chart are now muted, the AI trace tree's embedding and
span markers are visible, and the report loading icons are coloured.
…nd insights pages

The spec still looked for the realtime panels removed in #582 and for the
insights filters replaced in #634, so five tests failed on main before
reaching what they cover.

Walkthrough

The E2E checks now use updated realtime titles, the Events region, the exact Insights search placeholder, and filter controls with URL parameter assertions. The inline theme maps chart properties to corresponding chart tokens and removes numbered chart-color and primary/secondary line mappings.

The inline theme maps chart properties to corresponding chart tokens. It removes numbered chart-color and primary/secondary line mappings; tooltip mappings remain.

Change: Bug fix

Merge Risk: Low · up to 9fee9

The chart mappings retain valid definitions, and the test changes appear to address filter values, placeholder matching, and Events-panel targeting. Remaining uncertainty is limited to confirming those assertion corrections; no concrete production regression was established.

Explanation

The title names the two behaviours the PR restores: chart palette colours and muted axis labels. The raw summary shows the styles.css change maps chart tokens (background, muted foreground, grid, and others) in the @theme inline block, which matches the title's subject. The e2e spec changes are a secondary part of the PR and do not appear in the title. The title is specific and follows conventional commit form.

Nitpick Assert the Events feed region instead of matching the sidebar link text.

37-37: Trivial · Functional Correctness · Quick win

Assert the Events feed region instead of matching the sidebar link text.

The exact text Events also matches the sidebar navigation link. On /realtime, that link is visible at 1440px. The check therefore passes when the realtime Events feed is not rendered, so removing the feed would not fail this test. The feed's <section aria-label="Events"> exposes a labelled region that identifies only the feed.

Suggested fix
     for (const title of [
       'Online now',
       'Last 30 minutes',
       'New sessions',
-      'Events',
     ]) {
       await expect(
         page.getByText(title, { exact: true }).locator('visible=true').first()
       ).toBeVisible();
     }
+    await expect(
+      page.getByRole('region', { name: 'Events', exact: true })
+    ).toBeVisible();

Update the visibility assertions in the test around the titles array so `Events`
is not matched as generic text, which can select the sidebar link. Remove it
from that array and assert the feed using the region role named `Events`; keep
the other title checks unchanged.
Nitpick Require an exact placeholder match in the Insights search assertion.

72-72: Trivial · Maintainability & Code Quality · Quick win

Require an exact placeholder match in the Insights search assertion.

Without exact, Playwright matches placeholders by case-insensitive substring. 'Search insights' also matches Search insights.... This assertion would still pass if the input reverted to that longer placeholder. An exact match checks the full placeholder text.

Suggested fix
-    await expect(page.getByPlaceholder('Search insights')).toBeVisible();
+    await expect(
+      page.getByPlaceholder('Search insights', { exact: true })
+    ).toBeVisible();

Update the Insights search assertion using getByPlaceholder to require an exact
match for “Search insights,” so it does not also match longer placeholder text.
Nitpick Assert the selected filter values after the Insights filter clicks.

142-142: Trivial · Maintainability & Code Quality · Quick win

Assert the selected filter values after the Insights filter clicks.

The loop selects 7 days, Severe, and Increasing. After the reload, the test checks only the search value and that the URL search string is unchanged. A filter handler that does not write its query parameter does not fail this test. Assert each parameter after the loop. The Insights filters use the keys window, severity, and direction.

Suggested fix
     await page.getByRole('menuitem', { name: option, exact: true }).click();
   }
+  await expect(page).toHaveURL(/window=rolling_7d/);
+  await expect(page).toHaveURL(/severity=severe/);
+  await expect(page).toHaveURL(/direction=up/);
   await shot(page, 'siblings-insights-filtered', false);

Review comment at @apps/start/e2e/overview-siblings.spec.ts at line 142:
The Insights filter test does not verify that selections update their query
parameters. After the option-click loop, assert that the URL contains the
expected values for window, severity, and direction, using the established
parameter values for 7 days, Severe, and Increasing.

…r URL state

The review showed gaps in the updated spec: `Events` also matched the sidebar
link so the feed could vanish unnoticed, the placeholder match was a substring,
and nothing proved each insights filter wrote its query parameter.

Handled all three nitpicks in the latest commit: the realtime check now asserts the Events region instead of text that also matches the sidebar, the Search insights placeholder match is exact in all three places, and the filter test asserts window, severity and direction in the URL. overview-siblings.spec.ts passes 9/9.

Nitpick Cover the realtime histogram chart, not only its label.

33-36: Trivial · Maintainability & Code Quality · Poor tradeoff

Cover the realtime histogram chart, not only its label.

The Last 30 minutes check passes when LiveVisitorBars omits the bar chart. The chart renders only when the histogram returns minute points. This test sends no realtime traffic, so the chart can be absent without failing any assertion.

Do not assert the chart unconditionally. The histogram returns points only for events in the last 30 minutes. Seeded events use the seed-time clock, so an empty window is a valid state. Either generate realtime events before the check, or assert the chart only when the page shows histogram data. Keep the label check as is.

Keep the existing “Last 30 minutes” label check, and extend the test to verify
the realtime histogram chart only when the page has histogram data.
Alternatively, generate realtime events before checking the chart; do not
require the chart when the 30-minute window is empty. Locate the assertion in
the title loop and the chart rendered by LiveVisitorBars.

Not changing this one (realtime histogram coverage). This spec is a smoke test that the pages render without errors, and an empty 30-minute window is a valid state in seeded data, so a conditional chart assertion would often not run. Sending live events first would be a new realtime test, which is outside this PR.
