Description

These changes are by @eladshamir and just have been updated to match idiomatic changes.

Exposes Azure VM ID collection in SharpHound and attaches the result to collected computer objects.

  • Adds AzureRegistry as a supported --collectionmethods value.
  • Documents the method in the PowerShell collector help text.
  • Uses the shared registry processor to retrieve an Azure VM guest ID.
  • Adds successful results to computer properties as azvmid.
  • Refactors registry-processor creation for reuse across registry-based collection methods.
  • Updates the SharpHoundCommon package reference to 4.8.1.

AzureRegistry is available explicitly, through ComputerOnly, and through All; it is not enabled by the default collection set.

Motivation and Context

This PR addresses: BED-9763

How Has This Been Tested?

Running a build and making multiple collections.

Types of changes

  • Chore (a change that does not modify the application functionality)
  • Bug fix (non-breaking change which fixes an issue)
  • New feature (non-breaking change which adds functionality)
  • Breaking change (fix or feature that would cause existing functionality to change)

Checklist:

Summary by CodeRabbit

  • New Features
    • Added Azure Registry as a selectable collection method. When enabled, collection adds Azure-specific registry values, including the guest VM ID, to computer properties.
  • Bug Fixes
    • Azure Registry collection is excluded when Stealth is enabled.
  • Documentation
    • Updated collection method help text to describe Azure Registry data collection.

Walkthrough

The change adds AzureRegistry as a collection method and maps it to the runtime collection flag. Computer-object processing uses a cached registry processor to collect Azure registry data. When that data is marked collected, processing adds the VM ID to the computer object's azvmid property.

Changes

Azure Registry Collection

Layer / File(s) Summary
Collection method option
src/Client/Enums.cs, src/Options.cs, src/PowerShell/Template.ps1
The options enum, collection method resolution, and help text now include AzureRegistry. When Stealth is enabled, resolution removes that flag and records an update.
Computer registry processing
src/Runtime/ObjectProcessors.cs
Computer processing uses a cached registry processor for NTLM and Azure registry collection. When Azure registry data is marked collected, processing adds its VM ID as azvmid.

The VM ID joins the computer too.

AzureRegistry collection reaches out to all domain-joined computers to collect data via registry. This needs to fall under flags which normally execute this sort of collection. CodeRabbit has identified this similarly.
