Summary

Two players now both claim the other attacked first, and CoreProtect couldn't settle it because it only kept the final kill. This PR logs every hit one player lands on another, plus player kills and nonlethal knockouts.

  • Hits: every damaging hit from a player, including arrows, tridents, potions, TNT and other indirect damage traced through the DamageSource. Each row records the weapon and the damage. Cancelled hits are skipped (MONITOR, ignoreCancelled).
  • Kills: a player killed by another player, with the killing blow's weapon and damage. The existing a:kill row is still written as well.
  • Knockouts: a new API call, CoreProtectAPI#logPvpKnockout(Player attacker, Player victim) (plus a String/Location overload). RPCharacters cancels the knockout blow, so it reports the knockout here itself.

Storage

The rows go in the block table under three new actions: 14 hit, 15 knockout, 16 pvp-kill. The user is the attacker, data is the victim's user id, the location is the victim's position, and the metadata holds the weapon, damage and cause (PvpEvent, same approach as LockChange). This means no schema change, and purge and every backend handle the rows as they are.

These rows never act like block changes:

  • Rollback and restore always drop them (invalidRollbackActions).
  • Block include/exclude filters in lookups, the SQL purge and the ClickHouse retention purge skip them through a shared LookupActions.NON_BLOCK_ACTIONS list.
  • The block inspector only reads its own actions, so it never shows them.
  • Summary lookups only count block actions.

Usage

  • /co lookup u:Rushork t:2h a:pvp lists hits, knockouts and kills. a:hit, a:knockout and a:pvp-kill filter to one type; combat, damage, ko and player-kill are aliases.
  • Example row: Rushork hit SPShadar with iron_sword (4.5 damage).
  • New permission coreprotect.lookup.pvp, a child of coreprotect.lookup and coreprotect.*.
  • New config option player-pvp: true, which can be turned off per world.
  • The pre-log API event fires with the new PLAYER_PVP action.

Times are stored in whole seconds. Within one second, the row order shows who hit first: rows are written in event order and lookups sort by row id.

Also fixed: a:kill dropped player kills

When the entity map holds no placed entity types (boats, minecarts and so on), the placed-type list fell back to "0". Player kills are stored with type 0, so a:kill built type NOT IN(0) and excluded every player kill, and the block inspector's type IN(0) could match them. Both helpers now fall back to -1. Regression test: LookupRawActionPredicateTest.

Testing

  • mvn clean verify: all 68 tests pass, 27 of them new (PvpEventTest on every database codec, PlayerPvpListenerTest, PlayerPvpLoggerTest, ActionParserPvpTest, LookupRawActionPredicateTest, and the tab-completion permission cases).
  • TFMCDev, SQLite, two bots, with RPCharacters#125: 13/13 checks pass.
    • An empty-hand hit, two iron-sword hits, a nonlethal knockout, and a lethal hit followed by the kill were each logged with the right attacker, victim, weapon and damage.
    • The first attacker's hit is listed below (older than) the reply.
    • a:knockout lists only the knockout, a generic lookup shows (a:hit), (a:knockout) and (a:pvp-kill), and a:kill now lists the player kill.
    • co rollback u:GuardRpBot t:5m r:#TFMC_Map modified 0 blocks, and every PvP row kept rolled_back = 0.
  • Note for Dev testing: CI's DEV-… jar can't start, because VersionUtils parses DEV as the schema version. That's an existing issue. I tested this branch built as 25.5.0.

🤖 Generated with Claude Code

Staff could not tell who attacked first in a fight: CoreProtect only kept
the final kill. Every hit one player lands on another is now logged with
the weapon and damage, as are player kills and nonlethal knockouts that
other plugins report through the new logPvpKnockout API.

The rows live in the block table under three new actions (hit, knockout,
pvp-kill) with the victim's user id in the data column, so purge and every
storage backend handle them without a schema change. Rollbacks never
touch them, and block filters and the block inspector skip them.

"/co lookup a:pvp" lists them, or a:hit, a:knockout and a:pvp-kill on
their own. Lookups need the new coreprotect.lookup.pvp permission, and
the "player-pvp" option (default true) turns logging off per world.

📝 Summary

Summary by CodeRabbit

  • New Features
    • PvP logging records player hits and kills, including weapon, damage and cause details, and can be enabled or disabled per world. The API also supports logging knockouts.
    • Lookups support PvP actions and aliases, with dedicated permission controls and event descriptions that include available details.
    • The “Broad world coverage” feature description now notes that logging records every hit, knockout and kill between two players.
  • Bug Fixes
    • Block-type filters now handle non-block events consistently during lookups and purges.

Adds logging for player hits, knockouts and kills, with event metadata and configurable world-level capture. Adds PvP action aliases, permissions and lookup output, and updates query filters for PvP actions.

When the entity map holds no placed entity types, such as boats or minecarts,
the placed-type list fell back to "0". Player kills are stored with type 0,
so "a:kill" excluded every player kill and the block inspector could match
them. Fall back to an id no row uses instead.

Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 5.5 <noreply@anthropic.com>
A page request reused the saved actions after the permission check, so a
player whose PvP permission was revoked could still page through an earlier
a:pvp lookup. Check the restored actions too.

A lookup with no action list also returned PvP rows to anyone with block
lookup access. Leave them out unless the sender has
coreprotect.lookup.pvp, inside the query so page counts stay right.

Exclude PvP rows in SQL for rollback queries.

When lookup=false and actionList is empty, the query still selects PvP rows. This line removes them only after SQL applies a row limit. If recent hits fill a limited result, Lookup.performPartialLookup can return no block changes even when older matching changes exist. Lookup.countLookupRows also counts the excluded hits. Add the PvP exclusion to the SQL predicate for rollback queries, before counting or limiting rows. (raw.githubusercontent.com)

Rollbacks dropped PvP rows only after the query, so a limited rollback query
could fill up with hits and miss older block changes, and counts included
them. Exclude them in the query when no action is given.

Re the outside-diff note on LookupRaw.java:157 (rollback queries): fixed in 1a44d64. When no action is given, LookupRaw now adds the PvP exclusion to the SQL for every non-lookup query, as well as for lookups by senders without coreprotect.lookup.pvp. Row limits and counts in performPartialLookup and countLookupRows now only see block rows. The invalidRollbackActions check stays as a second guard. I reran the full TFMCDev test (13/13): co rollback u:GuardRpBot t:5m r:#TFMC_Map still modifies 0 blocks, and every PvP row keeps rolled_back = 0.
