Android Study Notes with Java and XML

This repository is my personal set of Android study notes. I write here while learning and working with Android, so the ideas, explanations, code snippets, and questions I find useful stay together and are easy for me to revisit.

The notes help me build and retain an understanding of Android's core concepts. I explain topics in my own words, record how important parts fit together, and keep Java and XML examples beside the concepts they illustrate. When a small practice example helps me understand something, I include it as part of my notes.

Scope

These notes focus on core Android development with Java and XML. The sections group related subjects, from the first app and Android project structure through app components, layouts, data, networking, background work, testing, and release. Kotlin is not included because I have not studied it.

How these notes are organized

  • Topic notes collect explanations, terminology, APIs, and observations from my study and project work.
  • Code samples gather the Java and XML snippets I want to find and review again.
  • Questions and answers keep useful questions together with the explanations I have worked out.

The first 15 chapters cover Android fundamentals through accessibility, testing, and release. Chapter 16 gathers the code examples from those topics, and Chapter 17 brings the main questions and answers together. Each topic chapter links to its neighboring chapters and back to this index.

Core topics

  1. Build your first Android app
  2. Java essentials for Android
  3. Project structure, Gradle, and resources
  4. App components, activities, and lifecycle
  5. XML layouts, views, themes, and View Binding
  6. Events, forms, and validation
  7. Intents, fragments, and navigation
  8. Lists with RecyclerView and adapters
  9. App architecture with ViewModel and LiveData
  10. Local data with Room and preferences
  11. Networking, REST APIs, and JSON
  12. Background work and notifications
  13. Permissions, privacy, and device features
  14. Accessibility and adaptive layouts
  15. Testing, debugging, and release
  16. All code samples
  17. Complete Q&A

Learning in practice

I use these notes to revisit concepts and practical patterns from my Android study and work. Examples stay close to the topic they explain, while the code-samples and Q&A chapters make review easier.

I refine explanations and examples as I test them in projects and build on what I have learned.
