Summary

When the last YouTube track in the queue ends, cliamp shows reconnecting in 1s and plays it again from the start instead of ending the queue.

ffmpeg's PCM was read through Cmd.StdoutPipe while monitorExit runs cmd.Wait during playback. Wait closes that pipe as soon as ffmpeg exits, so the PCM still in the pipe was dropped and the next read failed with read |0: file already closed instead of EOF. The player took that for a dropped connection and reconnected. When the next track is already preloaded the gapless switch hides it, which is why it shows on the last track.

ffmpeg now writes to an os.Pipe that cliamp owns, as the yt-dlp → ffmpeg hop already does.

The fix comes from #422, which bundles it with other yt-dlp changes; this is that one change on its own, and #422 can drop it when it rebases.

Screenshots / video

No layout change. At the end of the last YouTube track, playback stops instead of showing ERR: reconnecting in 1s.

How to test

  1. make check
  2. TestYTDLPipeDrainsOutputAfterFFmpegExits reads from fixture yt-dlp and ffmpeg scripts after ffmpeg has exited. It fails on main with streamed 0 frames, want 4096.
  3. Play a single short YouTube track to its end, e.g. cliamp "https://music.youtube.com/watch?v=nb8CnIo_-_A" (1:40). On main it restarts after reconnecting in 1s; with this change playback stops.

Checklist

  • make check passes
  • docs/ and site/index.html updated for user-facing changes (none needed)

Summary by CodeRabbit

  • Bug Fixes
    • Audio streams now continue playing buffered output after the media process exits, preventing audio from being cut off or ending with a read error. This ensures the remaining audio can be heard through the end of the stream.
  • Tests
    • Added coverage to verify that all buffered audio is played through to a clean end of stream.

ffmpeg's PCM came through Cmd.StdoutPipe while monitorExit ran cmd.Wait
during playback. Wait closes that pipe as soon as ffmpeg exits, so the end
of every yt-dlp track dropped the PCM still buffered in the pipe and failed
the next read with "file already closed" instead of EOF. The player took
that for a dropped connection: the last track in the queue restarted from
the beginning instead of ending the queue. Give ffmpeg an os.Pipe instead,
as the yt-dlp to ffmpeg hop already does.

Found and first fixed in #422.

Walkthrough

decodeYTDLPipe now uses a parent-owned pipe for ffmpeg PCM output. A regression test checks that buffered PCM drains after ffmpeg exits.

Parent-owned PCM pipe and drain test
player/ytdl.go, player/ytdl_test.go
decodeYTDLPipe assigns ffmpeg output to an os.Pipe pair and initializes the streamer from its read end. The test checks that all 256 stereo frames drain to EOF with no error after ffmpeg exits.

Buffered PCM remains readable after ffmpeg exits, so normal playback can finish the last track instead of cutting it short. No actionable current-head risk remains.

Linux caps a new pipe at two pages once a user passes the pipe soft limit,
where the 16 KiB fixture could block ffmpeg before it exits. 1 KiB still
shows the dropped output on the old StdoutPipe code.
