Feature Request: Support Bridge 90.9 and other stations with external playlist APIs

Problem

Some internet radio stations don't send their song information along with the audio stream (no ICY metadata). Instead, they publish now-playing information via a separate JSON API endpoint.

Example: Bridge 90.9 (bridge909.org)

  • Audio stream: https://prod-3-238-92-150.amperwave.net/publictv19-ktbgfmaac-imc1 (AAC stream)
  • Playlist API: https://bridge909.org/api/playlist (returns JSON with current/last-played songs)

Currently, cliamp only shows the station name for such streams since it can't read inline ICY StreamTitle metadata. The radiometa package already handles this for NTS and FIP, but doesn't cover Bridge 90.9.

Proposal

Add support for Bridge 90.9 in the radiometa package (similar to how NTS and FIP are handled) so that:

  1. The stream URL is matched against known Bridge 90.9 patterns
  2. The playlist endpoint (https://bridge909.org/api/playlist) is polled periodically
  3. Current song info is extracted from the JSON response and displayed as "Artist - Title"

This would work seamlessly with the existing StreamMetadataResolver interface — the player polls the resolver, and titles flow through the same path as ICY metadata.

Mockups / References

  • Bridge 90.9 Playlist API response (returns most-recent-first):
{
  "songs": [
    {
      "played_at": "October 25th at 3:46 pm",
      "song": "Proud Mary",
      "artist": "Ike & Tina Turner",
      "album": "Workin' Together"
    },
    ...
  ]
}
  • Existing implementation: external/radiometa/radiometa.go — handles NTS and FIP via the same pattern

  • Related issue: The radiometa.Resolver function is registered in providers.go:424 via p.RegisterStreamMetadataResolver(radiometa.Resolver)

Implementation Notes

The feature is self-contained in the radiometa package:

  1. Add matchBridge(url) to detect Bridge 90.9 stream URLs
  2. Add bridgeNowPlaying() to fetch and parse the playlist API
  3. Register in the Resolver switch statement

This follows the existing pattern and requires no changes to the player, UI, or configuration.

Testing

The implementation includes comprehensive tests:

  • TestResolverMatching: Tests URL matching for bridge909.org domain and streaming URLs
  • TestParseBridge: Tests parsing of the JSON API response
  • TestBridgeEmpty: Tests edge case when playlist is empty
  • TestGetJSON: Uses existing test framework for HTTP handling

Changelog

Resolves #663.

Bridge 90.9 publishes now-playing info via JSON API
(https://bridge909.org/api/playlist) rather than inline ICY metadata.
Add to radiometa resolver following NTS/FIP pattern.

Walkthrough

The resolver now matches Bridge URLs and returns a fetch function with a 30-second polling interval. The fetcher requests the Bridge playlist, returns request errors, and extracts the first song’s artist and title. An empty playlist produces an empty result.

Changes: Bridge 90.9 metadata

Layer / File(s) Summary
Bridge playlist fetching and parsing
external/radiometa/radiometa.go, external/radiometa/radiometa_test.go
Adds Bridge playlist response types and a fetcher. The parser returns the first song’s artist and title, or an empty result when the playlist has no songs. Tests cover both cases.
Resolver URL matching
external/radiometa/radiometa.go, external/radiometa/radiometa_test.go
Adds Bridge URL matching with a 30-second polling interval. Tests cover an Amperwave URL and three Bridge-related URLs.

Bridge metadata support works, but broad URL matching can show the Bridge song for unrelated streams; this is a bounded follow-up risk.

The matchBridge function now checks for the bridge909.org domain
rather than specific CDN paths, so it continues to work if
Bridge 90.9 changes their streaming infrastructure.

Also added test cases for alternative bridge909.org subdomains
to verify the relaxed matching.

Comment thread external/radiometa/radiometa.go
The matchBridge function now uses an array of patterns to check for
Bridge 90.9 identifiers across all possible domains and CDNs. This
covers both current and future streaming infrastructure.

Patterns:
- bridge909.org (web/API domain)
- prod-3-238-92-150.amperwave.net (current CDN)
- publictv19 (stream prefix)
- ktbgfmaac (codec identifier)

Major · Functional Correctness · Quick win

Preserve the existing Amperwave match.

The new predicate matches only URLs containing bridge909.org. The existing TestResolverMatching case uses prod-3-238-92-150.amperwave.net/... and expects Resolver to return ok=true. This change makes that case return ok=false, so metadata support stops working for the current Bridge stream and the test suite fails. Parse the URL and match both the Bridge host family and the existing Amperwave host/path.
