Fixes #142

Changes

  • Bugsee.deleteCollectedDataOnDevice(includingIntermediate, includingFinishedReports = false). Default keeps existing behaviour.
    • Android: forwards to the SDK's 3-argument deleteCollectedDataOnDevice(includingIntermediate, includingBundles, callback).
    • iOS: true calls the SDK's completion-only deleteCollectedDataOnDevice:.
  • iOS no longer resolves false after 1.5 s. It resolves with the SDK's completion (beta7 always invokes it, incl. NO when not stopped). A 60 s backstop (BGSRNDeleteCollectedData, in ios/Support, XCTest-covered) rejects with E_DELETE_TIMEOUT (outcome unknown, deletion may still finish) and ignores a late completion.
  • Doc comments: accurate includingIntermediate wording for both platforms.

By design (not changed)

  • Deletion is refused while the SDK is launched (resolves false on both platforms); the app must stop() first. Documented.

Platform gap (possible SDK follow-up, marked TODO in the JS doc comment)

With includingFinishedReports: true, iOS calls the delete-everything form: it also deletes crashes not yet reported and learned performance baselines, cancels pending uploads, and includingIntermediate is moot. Android's 3-arg method deletes finished report bundles only (per the SDK source it does not touch unreported crashes). Aligning them is an SDK-side decision.

Docs

bugsee/docs#110 needs updating for the new parameter, the E_DELETE_TIMEOUT rejection and the platform difference.

Tests

  • Jest: full suite, typecheck, lint pass; arg/default tests plus wiring checks.
  • XCTest (iPhone 17 Pro simulator): BGSRNDeleteCollectedDataTests (outcome, slow completion, timeout reject, late/second completion ignored).
  • Android emulator e2e: [API-41c] and new [API-41d] (upload against dead endpoint, stop, delete(false, true): resolves true, 0 bundles, none after relaunch) pass.

…ve iOS with the real outcome

Android forwards to the 3-argument SDK method. iOS calls the delete-everything
form (reports waiting for upload, unreported crashes, baselines). The iOS 1.5 s
settle deadline is gone: beta7 always invokes the completion, so a slow deletion
no longer resolves false.

…the platform gap; add e2e

- BGSRNDeleteCollectedData (ios/Support, XCTest): settle once, resolve with the
SDK outcome, reject E_DELETE_TIMEOUT if nothing arrives in 60 s.
- Doc comments: iOS true also wipes unreported crashes/baselines, Android
deletes bundles only (possible SDK follow-up); accurate includingIntermediate
  wording.
- e2e [API-41d]: upload against a dead endpoint, stop, delete(false, true).

📝 Summary

Summary by CodeRabbit

  • New Features

    • Added an optional includingFinishedReports parameter to deleteCollectedDataOnDevice.
    • Finished reports remain by default; setting this option to true also deletes them.
    • Deletion now provides consistent completion results, including timeout reporting on iOS.
  • Bug Fixes

    • Improved reliability when deleting collected data, including delayed or duplicate completion responses.
  • Tests

    • Added coverage for finished reports, pending uploads, timeout handling, and repeated completion callbacks.

deleteCollectedDataOnDevice now accepts an optional includingFinishedReports flag that defaults to false. Android forwards the flag to the SDK. iOS selects the matching deletion API and settles through a 60-second backstop. New scenario, unit, bridge, and end-to-end tests cover deletion after stopping the app and after relaunch.

Priority: ➖ Normal

Change: Feature · Severity of issue fixed: Medium

Merge Risk: ⚪ Minimal · up to a12c2

No actionable merge-blocking issue is established. The documented requirement to stop Bugsee before deletion still applies.

Security architecture risk: 🔵 Low · up to a12c2

The new deletion scope is opt-in, and existing callers retain their default scope. iOS now distinguishes an unknown outcome from a completed deletion result. Remaining uncertainty concerns platform-specific erasure guarantees and deletion that continues after timeout.

Retained concerns
No architecture-level concerns identified.

Security review details

Security Blast Radius

  • inferred — The newly exposed authority is selection of a broader deletion operation against the hosting application's SDK-managed collected data. The changed entrypoint accepts booleans rather than arbitrary storage targets or credentials. Exact storage ownership, deletion atomicity, and downstream upload effects remain defined by the native SDKs.

Trust Boundaries and Controls

  • observed — The base iOS bridge invoked the SDK even when its status was not stopped, then supplied an immediate false fallback if completion had not settled. Head removes that fallback and relies on SDK completion or timeout. The status-branch removal is therefore not evidence of a newly bypassed deletion authorization control; actual stopped-state enforcement remains an SDK guarantee requiring confirmation.

Resilience and Maintainability Implications

  • observed — The settled flag belongs to one helper invocation. It protects promise settlement but does not serialize separate deletion operations or reconcile storage after timeout. The inspected wrapper does not establish SDK guarantees for retries, concurrent deletion, partial failure, or collection resuming while earlier deletion remains active; these are coverage gaps rather than verified failures.

Hardening Proposals

  • proposed — For consent-withdrawal integrations, define SDK-backed rules for confirming erasure, retrying an unknown outcome, and resuming collection or uploads. Keep finished-report deletion distinct from complete erasure of every data category across platforms.

Explanation

Issue #142 requires finished-report deletion and the real iOS deletion outcome while preserving stopped-state behavior. packages/react-native/src/index.ts adds includingFinishedReports with default false and documents the stopped-state requirement. Android forwards both flags to the SDK three-argument method. iOS selects the completion-only SDK method when finished reports are included and otherwise forwards includingIntermediate. BGSRNDeleteCollectedData resolves the SDK result once, rejects with E_DELETE_TIMEOUT after 60 seconds, and ignores late or duplicate completions. The Jest, XCTest, and Android end-to-end changes cover argument defaults, native wiring, completion outcomes, timeout handling, and finished-report deletion.

Full details: Out of Scope Changes check

Explanation

The changes stay within Issue #142. The TypeScript API, Android bridge, iOS bridge, iOS support helper, documentation, and tests implement or verify the requested deletion option and outcome handling. The example-app scenario provides related end-to-end coverage. The documented iOS and Android behavior difference records the issue scope and does not add an unrelated product feature.

Review of PR #157

I read the full diff and checked the surrounding code: the iOS module, the Support package, the podspec's source globs, the pinned SDK versions, and the other callers and tests. I did not run any tests, linters or builds. I reviewed the code only, and the Jest, XCTest and Android e2e results are as reported in the PR description.

Findings: one inline comment, P3 (doc wording). The doc in index.ts says the iOS E_DELETE_TIMEOUT rejection happens "with includingFinishedReports set". The backstop actually wraps both SDK forms.

I found no correctness, concurrency or compatibility bugs.

  • Settle-once logic (BGSRNDeleteCollectedData.m): the backstop block and the completion hop both run on the same serial queue, so the settled flag can't race. A late or second completion is ignored. The backstop timer isn't cancelled after settling. It only retains the blocks for 60 s, which is harmless.
  • iOS no longer resolves false early: this depends on beta7 always invoking the completion. native-versions.json pins 7.0.0-beta7 exactly, so the beta3/beta4 "no completion when launched" case can't occur through this package. If the pin is ever lowered, a launched call would reject after 60 s instead of resolving false.
  • Build wiring: the podspec globs ios/**/*.{h,m,mm}, so it picks up the new files. SwiftPM auto-discovers sources in Support, so there are no manifest changes to miss.
  • Signature change: the native spec and the mock both take (boolean, boolean). The JS wrapper defaults includingFinishedReports to false, so existing deleteCollectedDataOnDevice(x) callers behave as before. I found no other native callers of the method.
  • iOS/Android difference: includingFinishedReports: true deletes more on iOS than on Android. It is documented and marked TODO in the doc comments. The current docs say so, but it is a semantic mismatch for anyone relying on the flag across platforms.

Test coverage notes (not defects):

  • The consent-withdrawal e2e [API-41d] is Android-only according to the PR description. The iOS delete-everything path is covered only by the XCTest of the settle logic and the Jest source-regex wiring checks. Nothing exercises the real iOS SDK call. The iOS call-site wiring is checked by regex over BugseeModule.mm, which is brittle against reformatting.
  • Every Android and iOS signature or behaviour change in this PR is already pinned by tests. There is no test for an iOS E_DELETE_TIMEOUT reject reaching JS as a rejected promise. That path is a one-line reject(code, message, nil).

Summary

  1. Overall risk: Low
  2. Merge recommendation: Approve once the doc wording is fixed, and ideally after a manual iOS run of deleteCollectedDataOnDevice(false, true) on a device or simulator. I can't approve the PR myself.
  3. Most important issue to fix: the P3 doc wording in index.ts.
  4. Positives:
    • The settling logic is isolated in a small, unit-testable support function.
    • The reject-on-timeout design avoids falsely telling a caller that deletion failed.
    • The platform gap is clearly documented, and the default keeps existing behaviour.
    • The Android e2e checks the real user outcome: the bundle is gone after a relaunch.

Re-review of PR #157 after the latest push (7674246)

I looked at the new commit and re-read the iOS module, the BGSRNDeleteCollectedData support file and index.ts. I did not run tests, linters or builds.

New findings: none.

Earlier finding, still open (P3, doc wording):

  • Claude and CodeRabbit both reported this earlier, so I'm not posting it again inline.
  • packages/react-native/src/index.ts:835-836 still says the iOS E_DELETE_TIMEOUT rejection happens "with includingFinishedReports set".
  • The backstop in BugseeModule.mm wraps both SDK forms, so it applies to every iOS call.
  • NativeBugsee.ts:620 already words it without the qualifier.
  • The fix is the one-line doc change in CodeRabbit's suggestion: drop the qualifier and say "whatever the flags".

What 7674246 changes:

  • It narrows the reject block of BGSRNDeleteCollectedData from (code, message) to (code).
  • The bridge now supplies a literal message. The commit message says this avoids a raw-message scan.
  • I checked the header, implementation, BugseeModule.mm call site and all five XCTest call sites. The signatures match.
  • The settle-once logic is untouched, so the earlier conclusions hold. The completion and the backstop both run on the same serial queue, so a late or second completion is ignored.
  • The message text is the same apart from . becoming ;.
  • The E_DELETE_TIMEOUT code is still asserted in the tests.

Summary

  1. Overall risk: Low
  2. Merge recommendation: Approve once the P3 doc wording in index.ts is fixed. A manual iOS run of deleteCollectedDataOnDevice(false, true) is still worth doing, because no test exercises the real iOS SDK call. I can't approve the PR myself.
  3. Most important issue to fix: the index.ts doc wording above.
  4. Positives:
    • The latest commit is a small, behaviour-neutral cleanup, and the tests were updated with it.
    • The settle logic stays isolated and unit-tested.
    • The reject-on-timeout design avoids falsely reporting a failed deletion.

Re-review of PR #157 after the latest push (d14503f)

I read the new commit and the surrounding doc comment in index.ts. I did not run tests, linters or builds.

New findings: none.

Earlier finding, now fixed (P3, doc wording):

  • d14503f changes packages/react-native/src/index.ts:835-836 to say the iOS E_DELETE_TIMEOUT rejection happens after 60 s "with either flag value".
  • This matches the backstop, which wraps both SDK forms, and matches NativeBugsee.ts.
  • The commit changes only that comment. No behaviour changed, so my earlier conclusions on the settle-once logic, build wiring and signatures still hold.

Still open (not a defect): no test exercises the real iOS SDK call with deleteCollectedDataOnDevice(false, true). I'd still do one manual run on a simulator or device before merging.

Summary

  1. Overall risk: Low
  2. Merge recommendation: Approve from a code-review standpoint. I can't approve the PR myself. A manual iOS run of the delete-everything path is worth doing first.
  3. Most important issues to fix: none outstanding.
  4. Positives:
    • The doc fix is minimal and accurate.
    • The settle logic stays isolated and unit-tested.
    • The default keeps existing behaviour, and the platform gap is documented.

Re-review of PR #157 (reopened)

The PR is already merged, and the branch has no new commits beyond the merge commit 46b58cb on main. I compared the branch against origin/main, which shows no further changes. I re-read the current packages/react-native/src/index.ts and did not run tests, linters or builds.

New findings: none.

Earlier finding (P3, E_DELETE_TIMEOUT doc wording): fixed.

  • The index.ts doc comment on deleteCollectedDataOnDevice now says the iOS rejection happens after 60 s "with either flag value".
  • That matches the backstop, which wraps both SDK forms, and it matches NativeBugsee.ts.
  • deleteCollectedDataOnDevice in index.ts defaults includingFinishedReports to false and passes both flags through to native.

Still open (not a defect):

  • No test calls the real iOS SDK with deleteCollectedDataOnDevice(false, true). The XCTest covers the settle logic only, and the Android e2e [API-41d] is Android-only.
  • Since the PR is merged, a manual iOS simulator or device run of the delete-everything path is a good follow-up.
  • Two follow-ups are already tracked in the PR:
    • the platform gap, marked TODO in the doc comment;
    • the bugsee/docs#110 update.

Summary

  1. Overall risk: Low
  2. Merge recommendation: The PR is already merged, and I found no outstanding code-review concerns.
  3. Most important issues to fix: none. The suggested follow-up is the manual iOS run above.
  4. Positives:
    • The settle logic is isolated and unit-tested.
    • Rejecting on timeout avoids falsely reporting a failed deletion.
    • The default keeps existing behaviour, and the platform gap is documented.
