Intentional: these wrappers follow the AI SDK, whose notify ignores callback errors. Only our own failures (storage, usage and raw-response handlers) are rethrown or logged. Renamed the tests to say so.

Invoke the deferred onEnd callback when awaited stream consumption fails.
When stream or result.consumeStream() rejects, the catch block rethrows before lifecycle.ended(...) invokes callerOnEnd. The SDK onEnd handler only defers the callback in this mode. Provider or stream failures can therefore skip the caller's onEnd callback.

🟡 Minor · Preserve the SDK signal on provider stream errors. · streaming.ts:384-395
src/vercel/client/streaming.ts:384-395
🩺 Stability & Availability | 🟡 Minor | ⚡ Quick winPreserve the SDK signal on provider stream errors.
If a provider returns a stream whose first read rejects, AI SDK 7.0.119 propagates that failure to the UI stream consumed by
DeltaStreamer.consumeStream. Its catch calls#abortwith the defaultabortGeneration: true, which aborts the same signal passed tostreamTextAi. The awaited caller still receives the provider error; the evidence does not establish an unhandledAbortError. Separate iterator-read failures from delta-write failures so provider errors fail the row without aborting the SDK signal, while delta-write failures and explicit cancellation retain their abort behavior.🤖 Prompt for AI Agents

AI SDK GitHub issue 22173 pull request 22178 fixed release version providerOptions result relocation
💡 Result:
**Issue #22173** reported that `providerOptions` on an approval-only tool message were lost after an approved local tool ran. The empty approval message was combined with the tool-result message, whose missing options overwrote the original ones—silently dropping settings such as Anthropic cache-control breakpoints in both `generateText` and `streamText`. (GitHub issue 22173 in vercel/ai (link omitted to avoid creating a cross-reference))
**PR #22178** fixed this by merging options when the preceding tool message has no content, and added a regression test. It was merged into `main` on **October 6, 2026**. (GitHub pull request 22178 in vercel/ai (link omitted to avoid creating a cross-reference))
**Release version:** the PR page says a patch changeset was added, but the available sources don’t identify the released version. A separate **v6.0 backport, PR #23238, was created**; its release status/version isn’t established here. (GitHub pull request 22178 in vercel/ai (link omitted to avoid creating a cross-reference))

vercel ai 7.0.119 release date PR 22178 providerOptions fix first release 7.0.120
💡 Result:
**Yes—`ai@7.0.119` was published on September 28, 2026**, at 17:06 UTC according to a release mirror; npm’s version history confirms it appeared about eight hours before that page’s crawl. ([sourceforge.net](https://sourceforge.net/projects/vercel-ai-sdk.mirror/files/ai%407.0.119/?utm_source=openai))
**But I can’t verify the PR #22178 / `providerOptions` connection from the sources I found.** The available `7.0.119` changelog lists other fixes, not that one; `7.0.120` is dated September 28 as well, but its listed changes are preserving tool metadata and resuming UI message parts—not a `providerOptions` fix. ([sourceforge.net](https://sourceforge.net/projects/vercel-ai-sdk.mirror/files/ai%407.0.119/?utm_source=openai))
So, based on available evidence, `7.0.120` was **not established as the first release containing the alleged fix**. PR #22178’s identity and the fix’s release version remain unresolved.

site:github.com/vercel/ai/releases 7.0.120 provider options PR 22178 changeset
💡 Result:
**PR #22178** is “fix: preserve provider options after approved local tool execution.” Merged into `main` on **October 6, 2026**, it fixes provider options—such as Anthropic cache-control settings—being dropped when an approval-only tool message is combined with a later tool result. The PR says a patch changeset was added. (GitHub pull request 22178 in vercel/ai (link omitted to avoid creating a cross-reference))
**It is not listed in `ai@7.0.120`’s release notes.** That release, published September 28, 2026, lists different patch changes. So the PR’s changeset does not establish that this fix shipped in `7.0.120`; the release page is the closest source for what that version included. Exclude AI SDK versions affected by the provider-options regression.
When a context handler adds message-level provider options during approval continuation, AI SDK versions before PR #22178 can drop them during result relocation. The peer range ^7.0.91 includes ai@7.0.119, which predates that fix, so supported applications can send model requests without those options. Raise the peer minimum and dev pin to a release containing the fix, then remove test.fails.

Raise the AI SDK peer dependency minimum and development dependency pin to a
release that includes the provider-options relocation fix, then remove
test.fails from “message provider options a handler applies survive result
relocation” so the test runs normally and verifies the options are preserved.

It seems like we're going down the road of reverse-engineering AI SDK and trying to duplicate its behavior, is that a fair assessment? Is there a way to change our interface with it that decreases complexity instead?
Fixes #388. Fixes #387.
streamTextandgenerateTextno longer predict whether a step is the last (willContinue). A step is staged inonStepEnd, saved when the AI SDK actually starts the next one (prepareStep), and the generation is finalized at its real end (onEndor end of stream); on abort or error the failure path finalizes it instead. A failed save stops the generation and keeps the step for the failed message. Callback errors follow the AI SDK: a throwingonStepEnd,onEndoronErroris ignored, and the caller'sonEndruns after the final step is saved on every path. A failing usage or raw-response handler is rethrown when the generation ends, or logged where nothing awaits it.onErroronly fails the generation once the SDK gives up on the error, so stream retries are not failures, and we no longer abort our own signal on failure (#387).A caller's
onStepEndnow runs before that step is saved. Requiresai@^7.0.91. One approval test is markedtest.failsfor vercel/ai#22173, an upstream regression in ai >=7.0.33, already fixed in vercel/ai#22178. Users get the fix with their nextaiupdate, so no release of ours depends on it; the marker comes off when our dev dependency moves past it.
