feat(Polynomial): two-adic bound for tapered Hermite basis values (D.10) - #1860
Conversation
Generalize `Foundations/Data/Polynomial/HermiteInterpolation.lean` from a uniform multiplicity to node-varying multiplicities `J : ι → ℕ` over a finite set of nodes with unit differences: - `eq_zero_of_forall_X_sub_C_pow_dvd`: uniqueness; the uniform `eq_zero_of_taylorJet_eq_zero` is now its specialization. - `hermiteBasis` and `hermiteQuotient`, with the Chinese-remainder form `eq_sum_hermiteBasis_mul_of_dvd`, `eq_sum_hermiteBasis_mul_hermiteQuotient` and `eval_eq_sum_hermiteBasis_mul_hermiteQuotient`, equation (D.9) of [OpenAI2026ETH, §D.4.4, p. 60] in scaled local coordinates. The uniform Taylor-jet and Hermite-matrix API is unchanged, so no client needs migration. On the dyadic grid S = [-2^a, 2^a), with node multiplicities m (v₂ q) on
S \ {0}, compute the 2-adic valuation of the Hermite basis value E_t(0):
- `padicValRat_eval_zero_hermiteBasis_dyadic`: the exact closed form
∑_{i < j ≤ a} 2^(a-j) (j - i) (m j - m i), the middle expression of (D.10);
- `neg_le_padicValRat_eval_zero_hermiteBasis_dyadic`,
`neg_le_padicValRat_eval_zero_hermiteBasis_taper`: the bound
v₂ (E_t(0)) ≥ -6 h 2^(a - v₂ t) of [OpenAI2026ETH, Lemma D.5, (D.10), p. 61];
- `sum_Ico_erase_zero_padicValInt_two`: the distribution of 2-adic
valuations on the grid, and `padicValRat.prod`.

Read all three changed files and checked the pinned manuscript §D.4.4, (D.10), p.61. The reflection is an involution on the grid modulo 2^(a+1), preserves the relevant nonzero valuations and pairs the equal-valuation terms with the higher levels. The distribution count includes the negative endpoint and excludes zero. Product factors are proved nonzero before applying padicValRat, avoiding its zero convention. The resulting exact sum uses integer multiplicity differences; the one-step drop hypothesis yields the stated lower bound through a finite geometric-square identity. Zero multiplicities and the a=0 boundary are covered by the statements. The taper specialization needs none of the manuscript's additional recovery parameters.
The tests directly compute E_1(0)=27/64 and valuation −6, then instantiate the bound. I also checked the exact product/valuation identity independently on 1,434 rational cases for a≤3. This is D.10 only, not integrality, precision recovery or a runtime certificate. No abstract impact or correctness finding.
Whitespace and sorted aggregate checks pass. Author reports the repaired library/test build and hygiene checks after the initial six-gate run. Title CI passed; Lean CI, Guide and Comparator were running at inspection. No local Lean build by this reviewer. Agent approval, not human approval.

T2.4 of #1538, second milestone (
worker-claude-e6cf7b0d-t2-hermite, Claude Code, Opus). This proves the valuation bound (D.10) of Lemma D.5, the tapered Hermite recovery, and the closed form it comes from. It is stacked on #1854, which addshermiteBasis. Review only the top commit99c385db5, and merge this PR after #1854.What is proved (new module

Mathlib has only the binarypadicValRat.mul.Proof idea. This is my own argument; the manuscript counts levels directly. Pair each

The valuation distribution then gives the closed form. The final bound uses∑_{k<n} 2^(n−1−k)(k+1)² = 6·2^n − n² − 4n − 6.Source mapping. The source is [OpenAI2026ETH] at
openai/math@7ef5c0cc, §D.4.4. I checked the locators against the pinned PDF: Lemma D.5 is on p. 60 and (D.10) on p. 61.i = v₂(t),q(i) = h·max(0, u − i)andD_t = L/2^iwithL = 2^a. The manuscript's1 ≤ u ≤ a,M ≥ uandh = ⌈3M/u⌉are used elsewhere in its proof, not in (D.10).E_t(0)is rational, so (D.10) usespadicValRat 2and needs nothing from T2.2's valuation onK.2^p. Those need T2.2's ringAand are the remaining T2.4 work.Existing notions considered.
Finset.Ico (-(2:ℤ)^a) (2^a). feat(circuit/frontier): deformed contraction and the Cauchy kernel #1845 definescauchyGrid L = Finset.Ico (-L : ℤ) L, which is not onmainyet.cauchyGrid (2^a)agrees with this afterpush_cast, so T2.7 can connect them without a new definition.padicValRatof a finite product, so this PR addspadicValRat.prod.Abstract impact.
