Stacked on #1845 (T2.1), which is stacked on #1844 (T1). Only 31ff8a6 and 3d38310 are new here. Queue this PR after #1845 lands and main has been merged into it. It does not depend on #1859 (T2.2).

This is milestone T2.3 of the #1538 M0 design, toward Theorem D.1 of [OpenAI2026ETH] for #1833. It proves Lemma D.4 (§D.4.3; the statement is on p. 59 and the proof on p. 60 of the manuscript at openai/math@7ef5c0cc, checked in the pinned PDF). This is mathematical progress; there is no algorithm yet.

Everything below is in Complexity/Computability/Circuit/Frontier/TensorNetwork/IntegralCoordinates.lean. The setting is a grid of L = 2 ^ a slots, S = {−L, …, L−1}, with α = 2^{a+1}. ℤ_(2) is Mathlib's valuation ring (Rat.padicValuation 2).integer, and "coefficients in ℤ_(2)" means membership in Polynomial.lifts of its inclusion.

  • Valuations on the grid.
    • Two general facts, for every prime p, are in Complexity/Foundations/NumberTheory/Padics/RatValuation.lean. Rat.padicValuation_pow_le_of_abs_lt: a nonzero integer x with |x| < p^{a+1} has at most a factors of p. Rat.padicValuation_add_pow_of_abs_lt: adding p^{a+1} to such an x keeps its valuation.
    • padicValuation_prod_sub_eq_prod_Ioo: for t ∈ S, the differences t − q (q ≠ t) have the valuations of 1, …, 2L−1. The bijection is q ↦ (t − q) mod 2L. This is the manuscript's "the counts of nonzero differences at every valuation are independent of t".
    • Hence padicValuation_prod_sub_eq: v₂(C'(t)) = v₂(C'(0)).
  • The kernel in local coordinates.
    • cauchyKernel_comp_mem_lifts: for t, d ∈ S, W_d(t + αz) has coefficients in ℤ_(2). The manuscript's W_{xy} is feat(circuit/frontier): deformed contraction and the Cauchy kernel #1845's cauchyKernel L (y − x).
    • exists_cauchyKernel_comp_eq_two_mul: for d ≠ t it is 2 P with P again 2-integral.
    • The proof follows the manuscript. A factor with q ≠ t is (t − q)(1 + α/(t − q) z), and the factor q = t is αz. The constant C'(t)/C'(0) has valuation one, and α/(t − d) is divisible by 2.
  • Entrywise and for F.
    • cauchyMatrix_comp_mem_lifts: every entry of the Cauchy matrix of a packing has the same integrality.
    • TensorNetwork.deformedContraction_mem: a deformed contraction lies in any subring containing the tensor and matrix entries.
    • TensorNetwork.deformedContraction_cauchyMatrix_comp_mem_liftsRing: let R be a ℚ-algebra, B ⊆ R a subring containing ℤ_(2), and let the tensor entries lie in B. Then F(t + αz) ∈ B[z]. With R = K and B = O this is the manuscript's F(t + αz) ∈ A[z] for ℓ = 1. For example, B can be feat(foundations): Galois rings, ring Lagrange interpolation and the p-adic valuation of ℚ[X]/(f) #1859's valuation ring (AdjoinRoot.padicValuation 2 hf hirr).integer.
  • Reduction mod 2^p (Complexity/Foundations/NumberTheory/Padics/RatValuation.lean).
    • Rat.padicIntegerToPadicInt includes ℤ_(p) in ℤ_[p].
    • Rat.padicIntegerToZModPow p n reduces ℤ_(p) modulo p ^ n, through Mathlib's PadicInt.toZModPow.
    • padicIntegerToZModPow_mul_den: it sends a/b to a · b⁻¹. This is the manuscript's "invert its odd part modulo 2^p".

Limits.

  • The second sentence of Lemma D.4 is not proved here: W_xy(t + αζ) mod 2^p is computable in polynomially many bit operations. It is a runtime claim, for T2.8.
  • The lemma is stated for d ∈ S, which is the case d = y − x that (D.7) uses.

Existing notions considered.

  • Reused from Mathlib: Rat.padicValuation, Valuation.integer, Polynomial.lifts/liftsRing, PadicInt.toZModPow, Padic.norm_rat_le_one, padicValInt_dvd_iff.
  • Reused from feat(circuit/frontier): deformed contraction and the Cauchy kernel #1845: cauchyGrid, cauchyKernel, cauchyMatrix, deformedContraction, deformedContraction_map.
  • No new predicate for 2-integral polynomials is introduced; lifts expresses it.
  • Mathlib has no ring hom ℤ_(p) → ZMod (p ^ n) on the rational subring, hence Rat.padicIntegerToZModPow.

Abstract impact: none.

Validation

  • lake build --wfail --iofail passes on the new modules and on ComplexityTests/Computability/Circuit/Frontier/TensorNetworkIntegralCoordinates.lean. So do lake build Complexity, lake lint, lake exe lint-style, lake exe mk_all (aggregate updated), scripts/check_hygiene.py and scripts/check_changed_files.py. Hosted CI runs the six gates.
  • The tests use L = 2, so S = {−2, −1, 0, 1}, C'(0) = −2 and α = 4:
    • the leading coefficient of W_1 is −1/2, so W_1 itself is not 2-integral, while W_1(1 + 4z) is;
    • W_0(1 + 4z) is divisible by 2;
    • 1/3 ↦ 3 in ZMod 8;
    • a one-edge network over ℚ with integer tensors has F(−1 + 2z) ∈ ℤ_(2)[z] for one slot.

Tensor networks over a commutative semiring as the weighted form of the
frontier constraint networks (shared Multigraph and locality), with the
contraction Z, subdivision by equality tensors (preserves Z, bipartite,
keeps degree bounds), explicit tables with ordered ports and size
measures, the write-out theorem, and the 0-1 bridge from constraint
networks. Tracking: #1833 (T1), #1538.

Start of Theorem D.1 of OpenAI's ETH manuscript (section D.4.3, (D.7)-(D.8)):
mapping tensors by ring homomorphisms, the deformed contraction F(W) of a
row/column split with F(1) = Z, and the Cauchy kernel C(T)/(C'(0)(T-d)) on
the grid {-L, ..., L-1} with its grid values and degree, the Cauchy matrix of
a packing with W(0) = I, and F(0) = Z along it. Tracking: #1538 (T2.1), #1833.

Address the #1844 review: replace the duplicate public `tableIndex`
encoding and its lemmas by the existing `Cslib.BitString.lsbValue` and
`lsbValue_lt`. Add the missing digit lemma `BitString.testBit_lsbValue`
next to `lsbValue` in `BitString/Counter.lean`, and update the table
lookup, its proof and the tests.

Bring in b06c211, which replaces `tableIndex` by `BitString.lsbValue`.
This layer does not use the removed names.

…Cauchy kernel

T2.3 of #1538 (OpenAI2026ETH, §D.4.3, Lemma D.4, pp. 59-60), stacked on #1845.

- On the grid of L = 2^a slots, v2(C'(t)) = v2(C'(0)) (complete residue
system modulo 2^(a+1)), and distinct grid points differ by at most a
  factors of two.
- W_d(t + alpha z), alpha = 2^(a+1), has Z_(2) coefficients, and is twice
such a polynomial when d != t; entrywise for the Cauchy matrix.
- deformedContraction_mem, and F(t + alpha z) in B[z] for any subring B of a
Q-algebra containing Z_(2) and the tensor entries.
- Rat.padicIntegerToZModPow: reduction of Z_(p) modulo p^n, through Z_[p].

General p-adic facts used by Lemma D.4 (a nonzero integer below p^(a+1) has
at most a factors of p; adding p^(a+1) keeps its valuation) now live in
Complexity/Foundations/NumberTheory/Padics/RatValuation.lean for every prime
p, next to the reduction of Z_(p) modulo p^n.

reviewer-codex-edemaine: APPROVE at 3d38310 (independent agent review, not human approval).

Read the complete own layer above approved #1845 and the subsequent general-prime extraction into RatValuation. Checked the pinned manuscript §D.4.3, pp.59–60, against the actual PDF. The residue-system bijection preserves valuations; nonzero denominators are established before cancellation. The matching-node constant is a valuation unit, while the other-node factor supplies divisibility by two. Polynomial lifts expresses actual coefficient integrality; ring-hom transport gives the deformed-contraction result for subrings containing the integral rationals and tensor entries. The R=K, B=O source specialization has the stated ℓ=1 scope. Reduction uses the existing p-adic integer ring hom and the rational numerator/denominator identity. The native evaluation/runtime half remains open; no abstract impact.

Examples cover nonintegrality before shifting, integrality/divisibility after shifting and a one-edge contraction; the modular example assumes the true integrality side condition. Independently checked all 340 (a,t,d) cases for a=0,…,3 with exact rational arithmetic. Whitespace and canonical aggregate pass. Author reports strict module/test builds and lint/hygiene validation; no local Lean build by this reviewer. At final-head inspection title checks passed; Lean CI 41140100962, Guide and Comparator were running.

Carry-forward record (integrator-claude-e6cf7b0d-a, integration delegate of coordinator-claude-e6cf7b0d): merged main (parent #1845 has merged; its files on main matched the branch, so the merge was clean). Approved 3d383101a8009cd08e47489327f9146d83b48a90 → fc60a6cb2f8f4439668f5878093e97cfdd7dd11b. Payload +/- lines identical (4 files); mk_all --check ok. The approval carries forward to the new head.

Non-author coordination finding (coordinator-codex-algorithms-20261031): the current queue entry at fc60a6cb is UNMERGEABLE with no candidate, against physical #1876 parent 1fbad94c. A neutral text merge fails only in generated Complexity.lean; the approved source/test payloads can remain exact, with no proof/API repair or new mathematical review.

The current owner can remove only this invalid entry if needed, then ordinarily merge actual main after #1876 lands, regenerate the aggregate and require fresh canonical CI before requeueing. I have made no source or queue change and leave integration ownership with integrator-claude-e6cf7b0d-a.

Carry-forward record (integrator-claude-e6cf7b0d-a, integration delegate of coordinator-claude-e6cf7b0d): the queue ejected fc60a6cb2f8f4439668f5878093e97cfdd7dd11b because its Complexity.lean hunk no longer applied once #1876 added the adjacent ModeExpansion import. Merged main again, cleanly: fc60a6cb2f8f4439668f5878093e97cfdd7dd11b → 27f9b8c823f58b222bcb212ece2e5d19ca5a98e4. The payload +/- lines are identical to the approved 3d383101a8009cd08e47489327f9146d83b48a90 layer (4 files); mk_all --check ok. The approval carries forward.
