feat(MCSP): derive subexponential average-case formula magnification - #1874
Conversation
Reuse the finite one-sided projection and subexponential closure rules to bound the average-case query and eventual formula leaf size. Fixed reciprocal exponent hardness at arbitrarily large arities yields a raw binary NP language outside FormulaPoly, via the existing total succinct-MCSP verifier. True is the unknown mask; false certifies NO. The exact rounded square-root threshold and conventional ternary/o(N) Theorem 5 remain open. Source: Oliveira-Santhanam ECCC TR18-139, Theorem 27 p.21 and Definition 43 p.34, SHA256 b5084e1987948beec8f50eb18be4dc27ea5239a6ca20ad159ee6e75b9d97a6c7. Validation: default scripts/check.sh all six PASS at tree a1457dc; focused module and ordinary clients PASS, hygiene --check-simp, changed files, tidy baseline and whitespace PASS. No selected-abstract, bridge, catalogue or rendering impact. AI assistance: OpenAI Codex authored proofs, clients and documentation; worker review_logsq_savitch_1671. Exact-head outside-fleet review is required. Closes #1871. Refs #798.

Read the complete four-file layer and actual finite projection, formula-size, growth and raw-verifier definitions. Subexponential closure bounds both the encoded query and its fixed polynomial formula cost; eventual sample feasibility is discharged before applying the finite theorem. The order is ∀d>0, eventually n, ∃F. The contrapositive correctly intersects that tail with arbitrarily large hard arities at one fixed exponent. True denotes unknown; false certifies NO. For loss n, the exact count normalizes to unknown fraction ≤2^(-n), with N=2^n input bits.
The NP witness is a single language defined by the total raw decoder/verifier, agreeing on canonical queries; arbitrary schedules require no recognition algorithm. Checked the concrete n=8,s=1,r=8 client and polynomial/zero schedules. The rounded threshold, conventional ternary endpoint and broader objective remain open; no abstract impact.
Downloaded the pinned ECCC full version, verified its stated SHA256, and checked Theorem 27 p.21, Definition 43 p.34 and both short quotations. The source's 0/unknown construction and 1/n allowance match the documented mapping; the wrapper's generalized schedules and quantifiers are stated honestly.
Whitespace and sorted aggregate pass. Author reports all six local gates and static checks. At inspection title/Guide passed; Lean CI 41141887366 and Comparator were running. No reviewer Lean build.

This adds the missing asymptotic wrapper around the existing finite one-sided average-case MCSP projection. A subexponential size/loss schedule gives a subexponential encoded query; polynomial-size formulas for any agreeing binary language therefore yield, for each fixed
d > 0and eventually in arityn, a formula onN = 2^ninputs with at most2^(n/d)leaves and the existing exact acceptance-count bound. With lossr=n, a fixed-exponent lower bound at arbitrarily large arities yields a binary NP language outsideFormulaPoly. The Boolean formula is an unknown mask:
trueis unknown andfalsecertifies NO. Its unknown count is at most2^(2^n−n), hence fraction at most2^(-n). Quantifiers are∀ d > 0, eventually n, ∃ F; this does not assert a single family simultaneously subexponential at every rate. The raw NP witness is the existing total verifier fromSuccinctNP/Words, agreeing on canonical encoded queries; it does not assume that the canonical image itself is raw-NP. No new public definition, device model or machine runtime is introduced.Source mapping: the pinned Oliveira–Santhanam full version, ECCC TR18-139, SHA256
b5084e1987948beec8f50eb18be4dc27ea5239a6ca20ad159ee6e75b9d97a6c7, Theorem 27 (printed p.21) says, in part, “Then there is a language L in NP”. Its proof constructs a 0/unknown device from a succinct-MCSP projection. Definition 43 (p.34) says “D is never incorrect.” and uses unknown probability at most1/n, wherenis arity, rather than table lengthN. The formal one-sided count is stronger eventually. This is new asymptotic packaging/generalization of the already formalized finite projection using the existingSubexponentiallyBoundedclosures; schedules need no constructibility premise because the witness receives parameters and samples explicitly. The concrete rounded2^(√n)specialization, conventional ternary/o(N) Theorem 5 formulation, efficient anti-checkers and broader #798 remain open.At
8eaeac8a, all six defaultscripts/check.shgates passed, as did hygiene--check-simp, changed-file checks, the unchanged tidy baseline and whitespace. Checked clients include polynomial/zero schedules and a concreten=8,s=1,r=8projection from an actual agreeing NP language, proving false implies NO and unknown density at most1/8without a formula-easiness hypothesis. The full public statements and model/quantifiers require outside-author-fleet exact-head review. No selected-abstract, bridge, catalogue or rendering impact; no PDF review is needed.Closes #1871.
