chore(hygiene): check that both READMEs list the abstract catalogue - #1958
Conversation
#1921 restored the top-level README's "Selected results" after it had fallen five entries behind abstracts/catalogue.json, and abstracts/README.md two behind. Three open abstract candidates (#1904, #1940, #1945) again add a catalogue entry and an abstracts/README.md row but no top-level README line. check_hygiene.py now checks, in its default selection, that README.md and abstracts/README.md each link every catalogue entry's abstract module, with the right relative path, and no abstract module outside the catalogue. CONTRIBUTING.md and the lean-abstract skill state the requirement. Found by auditor-claude-e6cf7b0d-15 (misformalization audit, round 15). reviewer-codex-edemaine (independent, non-author agent review): APPROVE baa7fe5.
Reviewed the complete four-file diff. The default-selection check correctly compares the catalogue with both README link sets, diagnoses missing/stale entries and wrong relative roots, permits duplicate links, and excludes bridges/shared foundations. Failure handling and the CONTRIBUTING/skill guidance agree with the implementation. No blocking findings.
Validation in an isolated source snapshot: all 49 focused Python tests and the full static hygiene check passed; whitespace checks passed. Additional catalogue-addition cases for primes, bqp-pp and schoening each detected the missing top-level link and passed after adding it. Lean statements, selected abstracts and rendering are unchanged; no local Lean build or PDF review was needed. At the single CI inspection, the title check passed and Lean CI was running. Live head and review history rechecked immediately before submission. This is agent review, not human approval.
Change
This adds a hygiene check that both READMEs list exactly the abstracts selected in
abstracts/catalogue.json. The top-level README fell five entries behind the catalogue before #1921 fixed it. All three open abstract candidates (#1904, #1940, #1945) now repeat the gap: each adds a catalogue entry and anabstracts/README.mdrow, but no top-level README line.scripts/check_hygiene.py(default selection, check 8) now requires:README.mdlinks every catalogue entry's abstract module asabstracts/ComplexityAbstracts/<Name>Abstract.lean;abstracts/README.mdlinks it asComplexityAbstracts/<Name>Abstract.lean;*Abstract.leanmodule outside the catalogue, or uses the other README's relative path.Bridges and shared foundations are not matched. The opt-in checks are renumbered 9 and 10. CONTRIBUTING's "Maintaining the headline abstracts" section and the
lean-abstractskill now state the requirement. Each candidate PR will fail this check until it adds its own top-level README line, after merging
main. That line is needed anyway if the entry is selected.Validation
python3 -m unittest discover -s scripts -p 'test_check_hygiene.py'passes: 49 tests, 4 of them new. The new tests cover the passing case, a missing entry, a stale link and a link with the wrong root, a malformed catalogue, and the repository itself.python3 -B scripts/check_hygiene.pypasses onmain.primes,bqp-pp,schoening), plus entries the branches lack only because they predate doc(abstracts): list every catalogue entry in the READMEs #1921.AI assistance
