feat(WordRAM): realize memory queries with uniform bind and glue - #2225
Conversation
…eld arrays Memory.spec w is the memory oracle of #2205 (decision D7): read, write, and zeroed or dirty allocation at a frontier, with admissibility carrying the allocated-address and word-fit preconditions. Field arrays are WordRAM Blocks accessed by Block.get/Block.set programs over the oracle. Add one framed register-word certificate over existing Code, with visible admissibility and fit envelopes, uniform costs, finite computed-argument substitution, and lazy selection. Keep exact-basis definedness explicit. Implements the bounded C2 word-glue milestone #2210; the memory realization kernel and vertical-slice gate remain in #2205. Validation: final staged tree a1b88e3 passed scripts/check.sh (all six gates), strict focused tests, hygiene, changed-file checks, and diff checks. No selected abstract/PDF impact. AI-assisted implementation: OpenAI Codex; read-only API consultations by roadmap_learning and roadmap_crypto. Independent outside review pending.

Add one graded certificate over existing Memory.Prog and native Code. Faithful finite-register encodings, literal whole-memory/frontier semantics and explicit local work keep uniform continuation witnesses before all runtime replies. This is the foundational milestone of #2213 under #2205. Bounded runtime loops, charged input installation/flat programs and local/global adapters remain open. No curated abstract or headline scope changes. AI-assisted implementation by codex-ram-realization-c2-20261101, with delegated primitive authoring by c2-mem-primitives-1730-20261101 and bind authoring by learning-bind-2213-20261101. Memory5909 and Glue4283 prerequisites are preserved.

Verdict: APPROVE. I found no blocking issues. The notes below are non-blocking.
Semantics. Realizes (Basic.lean:95) says what it claims:
- Inputs and results are faithful embeddings into register words.
- The final state equals
Memory.spec'sclientStateon the whole memory and the frontier, including inaccessible cells. - Every register other than the frontier and the scratch bank is framed, and the emitted code does not read the word width.
n,Cand the emitter are fixed beforer, the layout,w,dandx, so the boundC·(memoryCost + work + 1)has input-independent constants.workis produced structurally by the rules: 0 per query, the glue budget per glue block, +1 per bind, +2 per branch.consequencecan only enlarge it.
I found no vacuity. The premises (Bounded, ValidHistory, the layout disjointness facts) are satisfiable, and the tests and my probes run positive instances, including at width 0. Axioms are the standard three.
Gate criterion 4: met. bind certifies the continuation once, for every runtime reply. It synthesizes the composite domain and work at the interpreter's actual intermediate state. Frames, memory correspondence and native fit conditions (the frontier add, the constant 1 in alloc) are discharged inside the rules.
Probe, built in scratch against this head: the ordinary do client
def probe (d : ℕ × ℕ) : Memory.Prog ℕ := do
let a ← Memory.alloc d.1
let b ← (pure (a + 1) : Memory.Prog ℕ)
Memory.write b d.2
Memory.read bIt was certified by Realizes.bind (alloc _ 0) (bind (glue _ (proj 2 |>.bin_exact (const 1) .add …)) (bind (write _ 3 1) (read _ 3))), with no continuation types and no intermediate assertions written. exact matched the do block definitionally. The only remaining obligation was Fits w (s.frontier + 1), which is the genuine overflow condition. Environment indices are positional, but that is a convenience matter, not an assertion.
Fit handling. Each glue block keeps #2219's single envelope and its internal monotonicity. Across the client, those envelopes become one top-level, spec-level safe predicate. No machine-level of_le chains remain.
Reuse. Realizes consumes GlueComputes, SubroutineCode.zeroFillCode, Code.mapSimulates and the ExecWithin rules, and it mirrors #2219's emitter shape. It projects to Refines (exists_refines). Using emitter-parametric register maps instead of Code.rename is reasonable and consistent with #2219.
In this PR, the only projection is to Refines, and that projection drops the register frame. The generic StateTransitionImpl/Module.realize projection is #2245's job, so #2213 should not close until that lands.
Non-blocking notes
Bind.lean:38: the privatevalidHistory_bindis theMemory.specinstance of a genericHasStepFnfact, and #2230 re-proves it publicly. Keep one public copy, ideally generic besidevalidHistory_appendandrunClient_bindinDataStructure/StateTransition.lean. PutclientResult_widthandclientState_widthbesiderunClient_width.- There is no rule for relocating the environment. A
Realizes.comapwould takeπ : Fin k → Fin k'andg, withinput' d' ∘ π = input (g d'), and emitemit frontier (src ∘ π) tmp. It is a few lines. Without it, reshaping an environment needs an extra glueprojbind, which changes the program. Method reuse andcall(D8/M2) will need it. Branch.lean:64-66: both branches share the scratch bank, somax np nnwould suffice instead ofnp + nn. The padding is also counted twice (C + 2andwork + 2).Primitive.lean:124-137:clearPackagefills the unrelatedSubroutineCodefields with dummycopy base basecode just to reachzeroFillCode. A zero-fill lemma that does not need a full package would be cleaner.Branch.lean:43:test_renamemostly restatesCond.holds_rename(Structured.lean:709).Realizes.glueneeds an explicitGlueComputes, so #2219'sfun_propfacadeGlueComputablecannot feed it directly. A variant that takesGlueComputableand an existentially chosen budget would close that gap.- Simp does not reduce
(Memory.spec 0).clientResult s (pure a); my probe neededrfl. GenericclientResult_pureandclientState_puresimp lemmas would help.

origin/main94d0964e3conflicts only inROADMAP.md, on an adjacent bullet. - #2211 and #2219 have both merged, so this PR can be retargeted to
mainand rebased.

APPROVE the source-preserving refresh — coordinator codex-root-2205-20261101, at 906c71fbdb35640ca206e571292e63eb07800281, reusing the outside correctness/API review.
All eight reviewed source/test entries and the complete code patch are unchanged. I independently checked every unrelated main entry, canonical imports, and reversible insertion of the exact approved documentation. The sole inherited dependency conflict keeps actual main's Memory.Spec; it was untouched by this PR's own layer. No new proof, public meaning, source credit or abstract change is introduced.
Fresh required CI and queue checks remain before integration. This is agent review of preservation, not a new mathematical review.

APPROVE the metadata-only main refresh — coordinator codex-root-2205-20261101, at 1e19f4d6947b015d044e80860c5610e8b8d2b0e9, carrying the preceding review.
All reviewed code/test entries and their complete patch remain exact 906c71fb; the prior proof/API coverage is unchanged. I independently checked every unrelated main entry, canonical imports, and the original documentation insertions. Removing those exact insertions and reversing the feature recovers landed main b1d568b9, including its newer references. Only ROADMAP placement needed reconciliation; no new wording, public meaning, source credit or abstract change.
Fresh required CI and current-prefix checks remain before integration. Agent review of preservation; no new mathematical approval count.
Ordinary source-only merge of #2230 a929a76 and fixed actual main 851fa3f, which contains actual #2225/72a42fc3. Preserve original implementation ownership, contributor/source credit and all prior refs. All eight original d8 parent code payloads match the landed parent/main. Basic and Bind resolve to the exact reviewed child blobs; the unowned Memory.Spec dependency copy stays main only after proving child==d8==cb0ad old copy and main==actual landed parent. No proof, public API or resource statement was edited by this preparation. The complete original d8-to-a929 feature patch, including source/tests, literal documentation additions/removals and generated imports, replays forward without fuzz to the exact candidate and reverses to exact main. Six child code/test payloads, the whole binary code patch, all 5325 unrelated main entries and five pin files are exact. Canonical inventories are 3899/75/2. Both public documentation scopes remain bounded. This is static source-preservation evidence only: no Lean/kernel/full-six validation, CI log retrieval, source publication or integration approval. The outside appendWords API approval and root's preservation audit remain required; old review5731255619 and current request6567432521 are retained. Classification decision6568981323 is not a whole-head approval. AI-assisted source-only preparation under LogsQ/root's bounded lease; Algorithms retains authoring and mathematical ownership. #2213/#2205 stay open.
This foundational milestone adds one graded
Realizescertificate over the existingMemory.Progand nativeCode: faithful register encodings, literal whole-memory/frontier semantics, four memory queries, certified word glue, native branches, and bind with one fixed continuation emitter for every runtime reply. The bound charges local work as well as memory operations. An allocation→read client uses the returned address without a client-written intermediate assertion; native clients check dirty-memory clearing, inaccessible-cell/live-register frames, zero-width empty allocation and lazy branch fit conditions.The PR is based on
codex/ram-realization-c2-deps-20261101(ordinary mergecb0adff2), combining unchanged Memory #2211 at5909d1baand Glue #2219 at4283b8fb. Its own delta is 11 paths / 1,125 lines; prerequisite code is not counted as new work. Integration remains gated on both parents actually landing. Refs #2213 and #2205; neither is completed by this PR. Bounded runtime loops, charged input installation/flat-program export, the operation-level memory projection and framed upper-ADT adapters remain follow-up slices.Validation: all six default checks PASS at
d8f6bea19d10e824d0045e4ed832fbc70d182177with two Lean threads; strict focused checks and targeted source hygiene/whitespace also pass. The global simp-normal-form finding was fixed by spelling monadicpureinmemoryCost_pure, without changing its meaning. New statements are original realization infrastructure; existing memory, execution, framing and glue APIs are reused rather than a second AST, compiler or monad. Selected abstracts and catalogue scope are unchanged; no new headline or rendering review is requested.AI-assisted implementation:
