feat: offer to open the page in the phone's browser from an app's browser - #1218
Many phone visitors come from X, LinkedIn or Instagram, whose in-app browser isn't signed in to GitHub and doesn't offer saved passwords or passkeys. Signing in there means typing a GitHub password and a 2FA code.
In an in-app browser, the join sheet now offers to open the page in Safari (or the default browser on Android), where people are often already signed in to GitHub. "Join with GitHub here instead" stays available. If nothing opens after 1.5s, the text explains how to do it from the app's menu.
In X on iPhone
Nothing opened
Unknown app on Android
Safari (unchanged)
Caveats:
Opening Safari uses x-safari-https://, which Apple doesn't document. It's reported to work from iOS 17. It needs testing on a real phone from X and LinkedIn before merging.
Apps that open links in Safari's own view look exactly like Safari and aren't detected (they have their own "Open in Safari" button).

New Features
The guest join sheet detects when it’s opened in an in-app browser and offers to open the page in Safari on iOS or the phone’s browser on Android.
A GitHub join link remains available within the in-app browser.
If the page stays open after someone chooses the external-browser option, the sheet displays instructions for opening it through the app’s menu.

Walkthrough
The guest join sheet now detects mobile in-app browsers. It offers platform-specific links to open the page in a phone browser, keeps a GitHub join link in the app, and displays fallback instructions if the page remains visible after the link is clicked.

Summary
Browser detection and URL generation resources/js/lib/in-app-browser.ts, tests/Unit/InAppBrowser.test.ts
Adds iOS and Android in-app browser detection, recognized app names, and platform-specific browser URLs. Unit tests cover recognized apps, unnamed web views, standalone browsers, and URL formats.
Shows the existing GitHub join link in regular browsers. In detected in-app browsers, offers a phone-browser link and an in-app GitHub link. If the page remains visible 1.5 seconds after the phone-browser link is clicked, the sheet displays app-menu instructions.

Merge Risk: Low · up to def5a
Some iPad visitors may not see the option to open the page in Safari, but they can still join through GitHub. This is a bounded issue that can be accepted or followed up after merge.
Security architecture risk: Low · up to 8e4e9
The change offers a user-initiated way to reopen the current page in another browser while retaining the existing GitHub sign-in option. No new authentication bypass or credential transfer was established. Remaining uncertainty concerns platform-specific link handling, particularly the undocumented iOS scheme.
Retained concerns
No architecture-level concerns identified.
Security review details
Security Blast Radius
inferred — The demonstrated new exposure is a user-initiated URL handoff from the guest interface to an operating-system-selected handler. The changed path does not introduce a server-side privileged operation or access to another tenant's assets; destination-side handling of the existing URL remains outside the inspected client code.
Trust Boundaries and Controls
inferred — User-agent classification changes presentation, not authentication authority. The helper does not read or explicitly serialize cookies or session storage, although it forwards existing URL content. Reopening the page does not migrate the source browser's session; any destination identity comes from that browser's own authentication context.
Resilience and Maintainability Implications
inferred — The transition has no shared authentication transaction to partially commit or roll back. Repeated clicks schedule equivalent updates to a component-local flag; dismissal or navigation does not reserve server state. Silent handoff failure therefore leaves the original login route available rather than stranding an intermediate authorization state.

Explanation
The title "feat: offer to open the page in the phone's browser from an app's browser" matches the main change. The PR adds an option in the join sheet that lets visitors in an in-app browser (X, LinkedIn, and others) open the page in Safari on iOS or the default browser on Android. The title is specific and concise, and it follows a conventional commit style. It does not cover the 1.5-second fallback instructions, but that is a secondary detail.

- Line 54: Update the Android intent URL construction in the browser URL flow to
append `url.hash` after `url.search` and before `#Intent`, preserving fragment
state when opening the page. Add or update a test with a URL containing a
fragment to verify it is retained.
- Around line 24-28: Update platform detection in the in-app browser flow to
account for iPads reporting a Macintosh-style user agent. Pass an iPad-specific
device signal from the caller and use it to identify iPad web views without
misclassifying Macs; retain the existing iOS and Android detection and return
null for other platforms.
