Walkthrough

The Docker runtime stage now uses the pinned Python 3.15 slim Bookworm image instead of the pinned Python 3.14 slim Bookworm image.

Changes: Runtime Image

Layer / File(s) Summary
Update runtime base image
Dockerfile
The runtime stage uses pinned Python 3.15 slim Bookworm instead of pinned Python 3.14 slim Bookworm.

Priority: Low

Estimated code review effort: 1 (Trivial) | ~2 minutes

Change: Other

Merge Risk: High · up to 915b6

The container image built from this change is likely to fail at startup because the dependency environment is built with Python 3.14 but run on Python 3.15. Align the builder and runtime Python versions before merging.

Security architecture risk: Moderate · up to 915b6

The runtime advances to Python 3.15 while dependencies are still assembled under Python 3.14. This creates a material startup-failure risk for deployments adopting the image. Existing digest pinning and non-root execution remain, and no expansion of application privileges is demonstrated.

Retained concerns

  • Medium · reliability · inferred: The runtime now consumes a Python 3.14-built virtual environment under a Python 3.15 base. Interpreter links, version-specific package paths, or native extensions may prevent startup. The publication job can push this image without executing its entrypoint, allowing the incompatibility to reach adopting deployments without a demonstrated runtime containment gate.
Security review details

Security Blast Radius

  • inferred — The compatibility risk follows consumers of the newly published container image and could affect every instance adopting it. The evidence does not establish how many deployments consume those tags or their tenant and environment scope.

Trust Boundaries and Controls

  • observed — The reviewed source change replaces the runtime image reference without changing container identity, listener configuration, or entrypoint. It does not demonstrate an application-level authority expansion; behavior inside the replacement image was not independently verified.

Hardening Proposals

  • proposed — Keep the builder and runtime interpreter versions aligned, and require successful startup and dependency imports from the final image before publishing release tags.

Align the builder and runtime Python versions before shipping the image.

The builder runs uv sync on Python 3.14 (Dockerfile:2, 9). The runtime stage copies /app/.venv from that builder (Dockerfile:17) and runs on python:3.15-slim-bookworm (Dockerfile:12). ENV PATH="/app/.venv/bin:$PATH" (Dockerfile:29) makes the copied venv's python the first match. ENTRYPOINT ["python", "-m", "mcpg"] (Dockerfile:36) therefore resolves to /app/.venv/bin/python.

A venv records its creating interpreter in pyvenv.cfg and in the bin/python link. Both point at the 3.14 interpreter from the builder image. The python:3.15 runtime image does not provide that 3.14 interpreter. The copied bin/python link can then dangle. If it resolves to a 3.15 binary instead, the venv's lib/python3.14/site-packages is not on the 3.15 import path, and mcpg cannot be imported. In either case the container exits before mcpg starts.

Use one Python version for both stages. Either set the builder to a Python 3.15 image pinned by digest, or set the runtime back to a Python 3.14 image.
