Closes #112

Three small pieces for the waves image check, all on the gateway side.

What changes

  1. Ingest type. wave_nsfw joins the event types the curation desk ingest route forwards. Without it the gateway answers 400 and the sender drops the event as permanent. The payload is forwarded untouched, as for the other types.
  2. Promoted entries. They are served from here, not from the waves indexer, so a wave the indexer leaves out of every shared feed could still be bought into a promoted slot. The promoted list is now filtered by the indexer's verdicts, right after the moderation mute filter and for the same reason. Clients cannot do this themselves: a promoted entry comes from the chain and carries no verdict.
  3. Lookup route. GET /private-api/waves/nsfw?author=&permlink= answers the indexer's {"flagged": [...]}. It is for the wave page opened by a link, which loads the wave from the chain and has no feed row to read the verdict from.

Behaviour of the filter

  • one lookup per distinct promoted list, cached 60 seconds; lists longer than 100 entries are checked in chunks, in full
  • fails open: an unreachable indexer, a non-200 or an unusable body is a failure, not an empty verdict. The filter then uses the last good answer and holds the failure for 30 seconds, so a dead indexer is not asked on every request
  • an entry whose author or permlink cannot be read is kept
  • 2 second timeout, no logging on the request path

Tested

  • 14 new tests in WaveNsfwTests, plus a theory over all five ingest types
  • mutation checked: ignoring the status, dropping the fallback and the failure cache, checking only the first chunk, and keeping flagged entries each fail a test
  • full suite: 622 passed

Deploy

Merging to main deploys. It is safe before the indexer change ships: the lookup then fails, the filter fails open, and the route answers the indexer's 404.

Summary by CodeRabbit

  • New Features
    • Promoted waves now exclude entries flagged by the image safety check.
    • Added a private API lookup for checking whether a wave has been flagged.
    • Image-check events can now be included in curation data.
  • Reliability
    • When image-check lookups fail, the service reuses the most recent successful results when available. Entries without usable lookup details remain visible.

📝 Walkthrough

The API now retrieves wave image-check verdicts, filters flagged waves from promoted entries, and exposes a verdict endpoint. The curation desk ingest handler also accepts the wave_nsfw event type.

Verdict lookup and filtering
dotnet/EcencyApi/Infrastructure/WaveNsfw.cs, dotnet/EcencyApi.Tests/WaveNsfwTests.cs
WaveNsfw extracts keys, queries verdicts in batches, caches results, and filters flagged entries. Tests cover key handling, response parsing, caching, fallback, batching, and filtering.
Feed and endpoint integration
dotnet/EcencyApi/Handlers/PrivateApi.Feeds.cs, dotnet/EcencyApi/Handlers/Routes.cs
Promoted entries are filtered for flagged waves after muted authors are removed. The new GET /private-api/waves/nsfw endpoint validates its query values and pipes the upstream response.

Explanation

Issue #112 states that no other change is requested. The pull request also adds promoted-entry filtering in PromotedEntries, the GET /private-api/waves/nsfw handler, its route, and WaveNsfw lookup and caching infrastructure. These changes are separate from ingest forwarding and are not required by issue #112.

Resolution

Remove the promoted-entry filtering, lookup route, route registration, WaveNsfw infrastructure, and related tests from this pull request, or link those changes to a directly relevant active issue and split them into a separate pull request.

A rabbit checks each wave at night,
And marks the flagged images right.
The feed lets clear waves journey through,
While ingest sends the verdict too.
Five event types now pass in view.

…d a verdict lookup route

Promoted entries are served from here, not from the waves indexer, so a wave the indexer leaves out of every feed could still be bought into a promoted slot. The promoted list is now filtered by the indexer's verdicts, cached, failing open to the last good answer. Adds GET /private-api/waves/nsfw for the wave page opened by a link, which loads the wave from the chain and has no feed row to read the verdict from.

⚠️ Unverified finding
Verification ran but could not confirm this finding. It is shown for review, not as a verified issue.

Lowercase the author the same way WaveNsfw.Key does.

The promoted-entries path asks the indexer with author.ToLowerInvariant() + "/" + permlink. This endpoint sends the author unchanged. If a link has a mixed-case author (for example @Alice), the indexer gets a key that does not match its lowercase keys. The endpoint then reports the wave as not flagged.

Proposed fix
-        var u = WaveNsfw.Endpoint(new[] { author[0]!.TrimStart('@') + "/" + permlink[0] });
+        var u = WaveNsfw.Endpoint(new[] { author[0]!.TrimStart('@').ToLowerInvariant() + "/" + permlink[0] });
