Summary

Improves the appearance of the original X-Wing Alliance bitmap fonts used in menus and briefings by reducing visible pixelated edges.

Problem

Original bitmap fonts are currently enlarged using nearest-neighbor scaling, which preserves sharp pixel boundaries but produces noticeable stair-stepping on modern high-resolution displays.

Changes

  • Replaces nearest-neighbor scaling with Mitchell–Netravali bicubic reconstruction for original frontend font glyphs.
  • Applies anti-aliasing to glyph coverage before the font atlas is uploaded to the GPU.
  • Preserves existing font dimensions, spacing, alignment, and rendering behavior.
  • Leaves cockpit, HUD, and other in-flight fonts unchanged.

Scope

The change is limited to the frontend font loading process and a small standalone anti-aliasing helper.

After:
after

Reconstruct 4x original ABP menu glyph coverage with a Mitchell-Netravali
filter rather than nearest-neighbour sampling. Keep existing glyph metrics
and untouched flight/HUD font loading. Do not include artwork restoration,
GPU shader experiments or CI changes.
