Expand thoughts by default #5137

Open

Description

@jrl08d

There was a recent update that now makes users click an arrow to see copilot's thoughts, I asked about the change and copilot told me there's no global configuration to change it to show thoughts how they used to show

Proposed solution

add a setting so that i can see the agent's thoughts by default without having to click a down arrow

    The one thing I always tell people about GH Copilot as an LLM, compared to other LLMs, I like that it shows you its thoughts before giving an answer, and the LLM doesn't gas up the user like most other LLMs by telling them their terrible idea is great....
    but now I'm seeing things like this in the thoughts

    The little addition at the end of the thought makes me worried that this is no longer the case

    area:configurationConfig files, instruction files, settings, and environment variables
    area:terminal-renderingDisplay and rendering: flickering, scrolling, line wrapping, output formatting

    expanding on this further

    Here the thoughts are not expanded, Copilot is asking me "Does that split look right?" What split?? If I just started using Copilot I would not know i had to expand the thoughts to get the context here
