This pull request improves the release automation workflow to ensure Docker images and charts are published reliably, even when semantic-release uses [skip ci] on release commits. The changes enhance both the GitHub Actions workflow triggers and the version determination logic to handle release events in addition to tag pushes.

Workflow improvements:

  • Updated .github/workflows/build-and-publish.yml to trigger on release.published events, ensuring publishing steps run even if tag push workflows are skipped due to [skip ci].

Version determination logic:

  • Modified determineVersion in tooling/github-scripts/determine-version.js to handle release events by extracting the release tag name from the event payload and enabling Docker image publishing for those events.
  • Updated the script entry point to pass the full GitHub Actions event payload to determineVersion.

Testing:

  • Added a test to verify that determineVersion correctly handles release events and uses the release tag name for versioning and publishing.

This pull request improves the release automation workflow to ensure
Docker images and charts are published reliably, even when
semantic-release uses `[skip ci]` on release commits. The changes
enhance both the GitHub Actions workflow triggers and the version
determination logic to handle `release` events in addition to tag
pushes.

**Workflow improvements:**

* Updated `.github/workflows/build-and-publish.yml` to trigger on
`release.published` events, ensuring publishing steps run even if tag
push workflows are skipped due to `[skip ci]`.

**Version determination logic:**

* Modified `determineVersion` in
`tooling/github-scripts/determine-version.js` to handle `release` events
by extracting the release tag name from the event payload and enabling
Docker image publishing for those events.
* Updated the script entry point to pass the full GitHub Actions event
payload to `determineVersion`.

**Testing:**

* Added a test to verify that `determineVersion` correctly handles
`release` events and uses the release tag name for versioning and
publishing.
