Node.js 26.13 or newer is now required: it is the first release of the Node.js 26 LTS line ("Lithium"). Node.js 24, and Node.js 26 releases below 26.13, are no longer supported.
Upgrade your local, CI, and hosting runtimes to Node.js 26 LTS (for example, nvm install 26 && nvm use 26). See the Node.js 26.13.0 release notes.
Motivation
Node.js 26 became the active LTS on 2026-10-28, so Docusaurus v4 should require it.
This is a second attempt after #12463 and #12464, reverted by #12468 because Netlify installed an outdated Corepack with Node 26, which broke pnpm 12. Netlify upgraded Corepack on 2026-10-07, so this PR's deploy preview should now build with Node 26.
Notes:
The workflows using lts/* already run Node 26.13, so they don't change.
The test matrices use ['26.13', '26'], not latest: setup-node resolves latest to the most recent nodejs.org release, currently v27.0.0-alpha.0.0.0. Both entries run 26.13.0 until 26.14 is released.
The website build test no longer needs the 350 MB memory exception for Node 24.
Test Plan
pnpm install, pnpm test and pnpm lint pass locally on Node 26.13.0.
The docusaurus and create-docusaurus CLIs reject Node 26.9.0 and run on Node 26.13.0.
CI, and the Netlify deploy preview: it's the build that failed with Node 26 before.
Node.js 26 became LTS with 26.13.0. Re-applies #12463 and #12464, reverted
by #12468 because Netlify used an outdated Corepack with Node 26.

Walkthrough
The repository’s minimum supported Node.js version changes from 24.21 to 26.13. Runtime settings, CI matrices, generated sandbox configurations, and documentation examples are updated to use Node.js 26.
The root package, Docusaurus packages and templates, and installation documentation raise the minimum Node.js version from 24.21 to 26.13.
Runtime version configurations .nvmrc, admin/scripts/generateExamples.js, website/netlify.toml
The configured local, generated sandbox, and Netlify Node.js versions change from 24 to 26.
CI matrices and deployment examples .github/workflows/tests*.yml, website/docs/deployment/github-pages.mdx
The test matrices replace Node.js 24.21 with 26.13. The GitHub Pages examples replace Node.js 24 with 26. The website build uses a 300 MB old-space limit.
This raises the minimum Node.js to 26.13 across all packages and templates. Users deploying to Netlify with its default Node.js 24 build image will need to set NODE_VERSION to 26, and that guidance is not yet in the docs. The rest of the change is consistent and low risk, so this is mergeable with a documentation follow-up.
Security architecture risk: Low · up to dd10b
The changes primarily align runtime requirements and version selectors. No increase in permissions or secret access was established. Deployment compatibility remains partly dependent on external runtime providers, whose effective configuration was not verified.
Retained concerns
No architecture-level concerns identified.
Security review details
Security Blast Radius
inferred — The directly evidenced exposure is runtime selection for developer processes, package consumers, CI builds, website builds, and generated sandboxes. No new tenant, data-store, credential, or remote-publication authority was established by the inspected changes.
Trust Boundaries and Controls
observed — create-docusaurus checks the installed package's runtime requirement and exits before command parsing or initialization when it is unmet. Docusaurus invokes its preflight before command dispatch, but that preflight contains an unchanged notification-related early return before the version check. Consequently, its runtime gate is not an unconditional security boundary.

Set Node.js 26 for Netlify deployments.
When a generated site uses Netlify’s default build image without a Node version override, Netlify selects Node.js 24. The engines.node field does not select the build runtime. The Docusaurus CLI then rejects the build. (docs.netlify.com)
Add a Node version override to the shared template, and document NODE_VERSION=26 in the Netlify deployment guide for existing sites. This also affects the TypeScript template.
