Hold: ships with the FFA rating going live (v36), together with #6079. Do not merge before then.

What this does

Adds the client side of the new FFA rating: a tier badge, a rating with its uncertainty ("1613 ± 85"), and a "Rating by OFstats" credit link. The API is not serving the rating yet, so none of this shows until it does.

Where the rating shows

  • Leaderboard, FFA tab. The tab is now called "FFA Rating". Once the API sends ratings, each row shows the tier badge, the rating and its uncertainty, and the credit link sits under the table. A player who is still calibrating isn't on the board, so they get a pinned "Calibrating N/10" row instead of "your ranking".
  • Profile. The profile card shows the rating (tier, rating ± uncertainty, peak, credit), or "Calibrating N/10" while the player is still calibrating. The same summary shows on your own account.
  • Game history. An FFA game that moved the rating gets a "FFA Rating" cell with the change (for example +22) and "Expected win: 6.2%". Hovering the change shows the split into Result and Placement. In the history row's grid this is a 4th cell, which wraps onto a second row (see the screenshots).
  • Win screen. After a public FFA game the win panel shows the rating before and after, the change, the expected win chance, the Result and Placement parts, and "Promoted to ..." when the tier went up. It polls until the result is ready and stops as soon as you leave the screen.

Shipping before the API

Every new field is optional (tier, uncertainty, ffaRating, calibrationGames, and so on), so this client works against today's API and ships before it. Until the API is live:

  • The FFA tab is renamed to "FFA Rating" but otherwise looks exactly as it does today: the plain Elo ladder, no badge column, no credit. The "frozen" screenshots show this.
  • Profiles, history rows and the account page show nothing new.
  • The win screen shows nothing at all (no "Calculating rating..." that never ends).

The tab is renamed unconditionally, which is why this must not merge before the rating goes live.

The badge is a placeholder

The tier badge is a plain coloured pill with the tier name and division, one colour per base tier, on purpose. It deliberately does not copy OFstats's art. OFstats's real badge art replaces it in a follow-up that only touches FfaTierBadge, so everything around it stays as it is. The tier is always the API's tier string; the client never works it out.

Decisions worth a look

  • The win panel is shown only to a trusted viewer, and only for a game that was rated. The viewer must have live FFA fields on their @me (so it stays hidden until the API is live), a human player must have won (not a bot or nation), and the viewer must have actually spawned. Small, private, ranked and spectated games never show it and never make the request.
  • .catch on the new optional fields. A malformed or unknown value in one of them (a numeric tier, a calibrationGames of 12) reads as absent instead of failing the whole leaderboard, @me, profile or history response. An unknown tier name still shows its text.
  • Rating numbers from the API are unrounded floats; the client rounds them for display.

Screenshots

The API isn't running in dev, so the screenshots use a faked API (Playwright page.route) and, for the win panel and badges, the real components rendered in the real page (a win screen needs a signed-in account and a real 10-player public game).

  • leaderboard-ffa-rating-desktop.png: the FFA Rating tab with tier badges, rating ± uncertainty and the credit link.
  • leaderboard-ffa-rating-phone.png: the same on a 390px phone. The tier badge sits above the rating, so rank, player and rating all fit without scrolling sideways.
  • leaderboard-ffa-rating-phone-scrolled.png: the phone table scrolled right to the Games and Win/Loss columns, which scroll sideways as they already do.
  • leaderboard-frozen-desktop.png: the tab when the API sends no tier: renamed, otherwise the plain Elo ladder as before.
  • leaderboard-frozen-phone.png: the same on a phone.
  • profile-rating.png: the profile card with tier, rating ± uncertainty, peak and credit.
  • profile-rating-phone.png: the same on a phone.
  • history-chip.png: the Games tab, with the "FFA Rating +22 / Expected win" cell wrapping to a second row (the game without a rating has none).
  • history-chip-phone.png: the same on a phone.
  • win-panel-and-badges.png: the win panel (promotion, calibrating, still calculating), the profile summary (calibrating and rated), and every tier badge at all three sizes plus the calibrating badge.

Testing

npm test, npm run lint, npm run typecheck and npm run format:check pass, apart from tests/UpdateRegister.test.ts, which needs bash and curl and fails the same way on main on Windows.

🤖 Claude Code Review

Verdict: No issues found. Findings: 0 critical, 0 major, 0 minor.

No issues found. Checked for bugs and CLAUDE.md compliance.

What was checked:

  • i18n: every new string shown to users goes through translateText(), and all of their keys exist in en.json. The renamed ranked_ffa_tab → ffa_rating_tab has no references left in the code.
  • Homepage chunk: the new ffaRating/ components are reached only through the lazy modals and hud/WinModal. FfaRatingPanel is loaded with import().
  • Parsing today's API: every field added to the existing schemas is optional with .catch(undefined).
  • Polling: the panel aborts its poll on disconnect and on a game change, and drops results that come back after an abort. The pollUntilSettled refactor behaves the same as the old pollGameXp.
  • Security: there is no unsafeHTML, gameId is passed through encodeURIComponent, and the credit link uses rel="noopener noreferrer".

Minor note, not a bug: "keep playing" or "spectate" only hides the win modal, so the rating poll can keep running for up to its 60 s deadline.

On a phone the live FFA board's rating column was cut off until you
scrolled sideways, and "± 48" could wrap onto its own line. Below the sm
breakpoint the tier badge now sits above the rating, the column narrows
to 8rem so it shows without scrolling, and the rating and its
uncertainty never wrap apart. Desktop is unchanged.

🤖 Claude Code Review

Reviewed range: d32f150..e096a95 (incremental since the last Claude review).

Verdict: No issues found. Findings: 0 critical, 0 major, 0 minor.

No issues found. Checked for bugs and CLAUDE.md compliance.

What was checked:

  • LeaderboardPlayerList.renderRatingCell: On phones the badge now stacks above the rating (flex-col items-end), and from sm up it goes back to a single row. The new whitespace-nowrap wrapper keeps the rating and its ± uncertainty together. It adds no new user-visible text, so there is nothing to translate.
  • The rating <col> in the colgroup: the live column switched from an inline 12rem to w-32 sm:w-48 classes (8rem on phones, 12rem from sm up, so desktop is unchanged). The non-live branch still uses the inline 6rem. Lit's comment marker is valid inside a <colgroup>, so querySelectorAll("col")[2] still finds the rating column.
  • The test in tests/client/LeaderboardModal.test.ts: its assertions match the new markup: an empty inline width, both width classes, the data-ffa-rating-value wrapper with whitespace-nowrap, and the ± 61 text.

🟡 Minor · Show the calibration row when the FFA ladder is empty. · LeaderboardPlayerList.ts:688-693

src/client/components/leaderboard/LeaderboardPlayerList.ts:688-693
🎯 Functional Correctness | 🟡 Minor | ⚡ Quick win

Show the calibration row when the FFA ladder is empty.

When the FFA ladder has no public rows, render() returns the no-data view before the table renders. A signed-in player with calibration progress and no tier never sees the pinned calibration row in this state. The table renders correctly with zero rows, so only the no-data gate needs to change. The gate must also check the FFA tab, because ffaCalibration is set on every tab.

This state needs the FFA API to return calibrationGames without tier and with no public FFA rows. The PR says the API does not serve ratings yet, so this path is not reachable in production until that changes.
