# Idle connection monitor lifecycle

The idle connection monitor is shared by clients using the same SDK classloader. Closing the last
registered client stops its monitor and removes its JVM shutdown hook. Calling
`com.oracle.bmc.http.client.jersey.internal.IdleConnectionMonitor.shutdown()` (Jersey) or
`com.oracle.bmc.http.client.jersey3.internal.IdleConnectionMonitor.shutdown()` (Jersey 3) explicitly also stops monitoring for
all clients sharing that classloader and removes the hook. A later client can start a new monitor.

Applications that manage their own lifecycle, such as Flink jobs, must close clients and response
streams during job teardown. They can explicitly call `IdleConnectionMonitor.shutdown()` to stop the
monitor. Stopping the monitor does not close clients or their connection pools.

Shutdown does not wait for the monitor thread to terminate. An already-running connection-manager
callback can delay termination, particularly if a custom manager blocks or ignores interruption.
Classloader collection requires that the worker terminates and other references are released. If a
security manager denies shutdown-hook removal, cleanup logs a warning, but the registered hook can
still retain the classloader. During JVM shutdown, hook removal is no longer permitted; monitor
cleanup still completes.
