Why

The setup scripts made gitrid an alias in ~/.bashrc. A shell that is not interactive (a script, a hook, an AI agent) does not load aliases, so gitrid was "command not found" there.

What changed

  • setup_gitbash.sh writes a wrapper to ~/bin/gitrid that runs ~/Scripts/gitrid.sh. A wrapper, not ln -s: Git Bash copies the file where it can not make a link, and the copy would go stale on update. It says to open a new Git Bash window when ~/bin is not on the PATH yet.
  • setup_linux.sh links /usr/local/bin/gitrid to /usr/local/bin/gitrid.sh. The old path is kept, so gitrid.ps1 and gitrid.bat are unchanged.
  • Neither script adds the alias any more. One left by an older install is not removed.
  • README.md and llms.txt describe the command in place of the alias.
  • Version 3.1.1.

Tests

  • New tests/setup.bats: runs setup_gitbash.sh against a throwaway home and checks gitrid resolves and runs in a non-interactive shell.
  • New workflow step: runs setup_linux.sh for real and checks gitrid is on the PATH. This is its first run, as it needs sudo.
  • bats passes locally in Git Bash (51 tests) and shellcheck is clean.

The setup scripts made gitrid an alias in ~/.bashrc, which a shell that
is not interactive (a script, a hook, an AI agent) does not load, so
gitrid was "command not found" there.

setup_gitbash.sh now writes a wrapper to ~/bin/gitrid, and setup_linux.sh
links /usr/local/bin/gitrid to the script. Neither adds the alias any
more; one left by an older install is not removed.
