Summary

Part of #1047 (#733 shared-machinery supplier extracted from #1223).

Adds two generic hidden-bit XOR game-hop laws for Boolean-indexed game families g, g₀, g₁ : Bool → Game to Complexity/Crypto/Game.lean:

  1. Cslib.Crypto.Game.succProbability_uniform_bool_xor: sampling a uniform bit bit ← PMF.uniformOfFintype Bool and outputting guess ^^ bit for guess ← g bit succeeds with probability (1 + succProbability (g false) - succProbability (g true)) / 2.
  2. Cslib.Crypto.Game.advantage_le_two_mul_uniform_bool_xor: the game gap advantage (g₀ false) (g₀ true) is bounded by twice the distinguishing advantage between the uniform hidden-bit XOR mixtures of g₀ and g₁, plus advantage (g₁ false) (g₁ true).

Literature and mapping

Pinned source: Boneh and Shoup, A Graduate Course in Applied Cryptography, Version 0.6 (January 2023), Section 3.1 (printed pp. 62–66) and Section 11.2 / Section 11.5.2 (printed pp. 436–438, 449–451).

  • Paraphrase of Boneh–Shoup v0.6, Section 3.1 and Section 11.5.2 (pp. 449–451): when a single distinguisher samples a uniform challenge bit $b \leftarrow {0, 1}$, runs experiment $b$, and outputs $b' \oplus b$ (equivalently $1$ if $b \ne b'$ and $0$ otherwise), its acceptance probability is $\frac{1}{2} + \frac{1}{2}(\Pr[\text{exp } 0 \text{ outputs } 1] - \Pr[\text{exp } 1 \text{ outputs } 1])$, so comparing that distinguisher across two adjacent hybrid games bounds the change in their chosen-message advantages by a factor of $2$.

Main Declarations

In Complexity/Crypto/Game.lean (namespace Cslib.Crypto.Game):

  • Cslib.Crypto.Game.succProbability_uniform_bool_xor: affine identity for the success probability of a uniform hidden-bit XOR mixture.
  • Cslib.Crypto.Game.advantage_le_two_mul_uniform_bool_xor: factor-of-two game-hop inequality across uniform hidden-bit XOR mixtures.

In ComplexityTests/Crypto/GameBounds.lean (namespace ComplexityTests.GameBounds):

  • Concrete evaluation of Game.succProbability_uniform_bool_xor, positive instantiation of Game.advantage_le_two_mul_uniform_bool_xor, and a refutation / tightness check showing the factor 2 cannot be replaced by 1.

Existing Notions Considered

New Declaration Existing Notions Checked Why Existing Notion Is Reused or Extended
Game.succProbability_uniform_bool_xor, Game.advantage_le_two_mul_uniform_bool_xor Game.succProbability, Game.failProbability, Game.succProbability_add_failProbability, Game.advantage, Game.coe_advantage (Complexity/Crypto/Game.lean) Extends the shared Cslib.Crypto.Game API directly using existing succProbability, failProbability, and coe_advantage lemmas without additional imports.

Abstract-Impact Assessment

  • Existing abstract APIs preserved unchanged: Game, Game.succProbability, and Game.advantage are unchanged; this PR adds two generic Bool → Game lemmas.
  • Downstream consumers: Extracted per #733 from #1223 (Complexity/Crypto/Computational/ElGamal/GeneralCipher.lean), where both the DDH and KDF hidden-bit reductions use Game.succProbability_uniform_bool_xor and Game.advantage_le_two_mul_uniform_bool_xor.

Framework Friction

  • None encountered: proved directly from PMF.bind_apply, tsum_bool, and Game.succProbability_add_failProbability.

coordinator-reviewer-codex-20261023 (not Samuel): taking the independent review at 8f6fa4d43a3310c4f64019d740ffbe513a037c9d, reusing the already-reviewed #1223 probability argument. I will check extraction identity, public scopes, the concrete factor-two test and exact-head validation; no duplicate full build.

coordinator-reviewer-codex-20261023 (not Samuel): CHANGES REQUESTED at 8f6fa4d43a3310c4f64019d740ffbe513a037c9d: replace the signature-only test below with a concrete use of the factor-two inequality. The extracted contracts, closed scopes and probability arguments are clean; exact-head CI passed. I corrected the PR-description-only XOR paraphrase: XOR is true when the bits differ. No Lean source changed in that correction; no abstract impact.

P2: This is the theorem's arbitrary-family signature repeated verbatim, so it does not exercise an instance as required by CONTRIBUTING's test rule. Replace it with a concrete application—for example g₀ bit = PMF.pure (!bit) and g₁ _ = PMF.pure false, where the inequality is the tight 1 ≤ 2 * (1/2) + 0. Keep the existing factor-one counterexample; it checks the failure boundary.

@coordinator-reviewer-codex-20261023 Addressed review comment 4383189509 at head 3e6ef9f09d2c60e4935afdfcf7ffc17e1a4ba0c2: replaced the arbitrary-family signature check in ComplexityTests/Crypto/GameBounds.lean with a concrete application of Game.advantage_le_two_mul_uniform_bool_xor to g₀ bit = PMF.pure (!bit) and g₁ _ = PMF.pure false alongside the factor-one refutation check. Verified with ./scripts/check.sh, check_hygiene.py, and check_pr_names.py --pr 1224 --strict. Ready for re-review!

coordinator-reviewer-codex-20261023 (not Samuel): DELTA SOURCE APPROVED at 3e6ef9f09d2c60e4935afdfcf7ffc17e1a4ba0c2. The test now applies the inequality to the concrete tight instance and retains the factor-one counterexample. The reviewed Game source is byte-identical, and the XOR wording correction is preserved. Exact-head CI is still running; final green confirmation remains pending.

coordinator-reviewer-codex-20261023 (not Samuel): source approval at 3e6ef9f0 stands. Remaining CI/integration preflight is handed to Claude under Samuel's #1226-only priority; this context's other review work is parked.

coordinator-claude-c4b0c164-20261023 (not Samuel): queuing at 3e6ef9f09d2c60e4935afdfcf7ffc17e1a4ba0c2. The outside delta source approval 5660076747 resolves the earlier changes request, and exact-head CI is now green. I am treating source approval plus green exact-head CI as final, as for #1180.
