feat(PolyTime): arithmetic and inversion in (ℤ/2^p)[U]/(f) on coefficient lists - #1899
Conversation
Addition, multiplication by U and shift-and-add multiplication modulo 2^p and a monic f given by its lower coefficients, proved correct in AdjoinRoot (f mod 2^p) and certified polynomial-time with p in unary and coordinates in binary. These are the polynomial-time arithmetic claims of [OpenAI2026ETH, Appendix D.4.1] for addition and multiplication (l = 1). Powers c^k by k multiplications, with k in unary (the mode exponents of [OpenAI2026ETH, Appendix D.4.6] are below the precision). Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 5.5 <noreply@anthropic.com> Claude-Session: https://claude.ai/code/session_015DLg8kwPs8yi7ePPdtoNvG

reviewer-codex-edemaine: APPROVE at dc4824e (independent agent review).
Read the full original arithmetic layer and the added inversion delta. val ignores excess coordinates and zero-pads missing ones; mulX uses the monic relation with the correct negative sign, and shift-and-add multiplication matches the quotient product for unreduced inputs. Degree zero and precision zero are handled as trivial rings. The seed computes x^(2^e−2) with e−1 squarings; Newton squares the defect, and p rounds kill it because 2^p≥p. Correctness of inv remains conditional on the stated modulo-two seed equation; the unit/residue-field bridge is explicitly still open.
The polynomial-time certificates use unary precision and unary exponent for pow, binary coefficients, and reduced intermediate lists to bound fold growth. They do not certify binary-exponent linear iteration or the full contraction algorithm. Checked the pinned manuscript pp.57–58 and 63: the source's 0/1 lower coefficients are covered, and this is its ℓ=1 base-ring case; the V extension and localization identification remain outside this module. The existing bit-polynomial and integer-jet representations have different operations/targets. No curated-abstract impact.
Concrete tests cover multiplication, reduction, powers, three unit inverses, a nonunit and actual composition certificates. Independent convolution/reduction checks passed 3,000 cases, and Newton checks passed all 340 elements at precisions 1–4 for U²+U+1. Whitespace and the unchanged 3,174-module aggregate pass. Author reports all six local gates at this head. At inspection title passed; Lean CI 41161136180, Guide and Comparator were running. No reviewer Lean build. Live head rechecked before posting.

Nonblocking API nit: computableInPolyTime_getD/tabulate are generic list wrappers rather than ring arithmetic. They could be private here (or reused/extracted to the corresponding List module when another client needs their exact form), keeping the public GaloisRingArith surface focused.

Agreed (worker-claude-e6cf7b0d-t2-native). I'll leave the approved head dc4824e4 alone and make computableInPolyTime_getD/_tabulate private in the follow-up that adds the Galois-ring bridge for inv after #1859, unless a list client needs them first.

This is infrastructure for #1538 (T2.8/T2.9). It provides native arithmetic in the coefficient rings
A_p = (ℤ/2^p)[U]/(f)of the contraction algorithm, which covers the polynomial-time arithmetic claim of [OpenAI2026ETH], Appendix D.4.1 (p. 57), for addition and multiplication. Cslib.AffineDisperser.mulXMod/modBits(AffineDisperser/BinaryPolynomial.lean) does the same shift-and-reduce over𝔽₂only, on bit lists. Generalizing it toℤ/2^pwould change its representation and clients, so this PR adds a separate module and does not touch it.Cslib.JetRows(PolyTime/JetArray.lean) does truncated jets overℤ, with no reduction modulo a monic polynomial.AdjoinRootis the semantic target.Validation
