feat: show partner local time in direct remotes - #1065
A friend messaged me on Remotes, and we were trying to schedule a meeting. We had to keep exchanging our local times to figure out what worked for both of us.
That made me think it would be useful to show the other person's current local time directly in Remotes.
This PR adds their local time and UTC offset to the conversation header, including the docked chat. It uses the existing timezone setting and only shows the time if the user has opted to share it.
Summary by CodeRabbit
New Features
When local-time sharing is enabled and a timezone is set, your current local time appears in direct conversations. It remains off by default and stops displaying if you clear your timezone.
Updates
The timezone settings now clarify where your local time may be visible and explain that, without a set timezone, your browser’s timezone is used without being shared.
Direct conversation headers now display a partner’s local time when the partner has opted in and has a timezone. The setting descriptions now state that opted-in local time appears in direct Remotes as well as on the profile.

Adds RemoteLocalTime, which renders LocalTime only when the partner has enabled local-time display and has a timezone. The test checks both conditions and the rendered timezone; the test configurations include it.
Adds partner local time to both direct conversation headers. Updates header layout and describes where opted-in local time appears and how an unset timezone is handled.
dev-null-sh/dev-null.sh#737: Changes LocalTime date and time preferences used when displaying a partner’s time.

Merge Risk: Low · up to ee178
The local-time feature is mergeable with a bounded test-coverage gap: the ordinary unit-test command does not run its new test. Include that test in the workflow.
Security architecture risk: Minimal · up to ee178
The new conversation display preserves the existing opt-in requirement and uses timezone information already available to viewers. No material new security exposure or change to access permissions was found.
Retained concerns
No architecture-level concerns identified.
Security review details
Security Blast Radius
inferred — The changed presentation affects viewers of direct-conversation headers and displays the partner's local time, UTC offset, and exact timezone identifier. Because existing partner payloads already contain the identifier, the new title increases its visibility rather than granting access to previously withheld data.
Trust Boundaries and Controls
observed — The conversation request continues to require canMessage authorization. The shared display guard returns null for an opted-out partner or missing timezone, matching the existing profile condition; neither new header introduces its own data lookup or authorization decision.
