Summary

  • there are 217 open pull requests and nothing says which ones are quick to merge and which ones need care
  • .github/pr-queue.sh lists them from low risk to critical and a 👍 on a description works as a vote that moves a pull request up inside its group
  • it is a script a maintainer runs with their own gh sign-in and not a workflow since .ai/guidelines/github.workflows.blade.php keeps workflows off the GitHub API

Changes

  • one bash script with one gh api graphql query and a jq program plus two lines in the README so people know how to vote
  • drafts and pull requests with merge conflicts or failing CI or requested changes go to a waiting on the author list at the bottom
  • the rest is 🟢 low risk (only UI docs or tests and under 250 lines) then 🟡 review then 🔴 critical (migrations routes middleware form requests signature checks config .github or dependency files or 1000+ lines or over 100 files)
  • inside a group each 👍 lifts a pull request one size step (XS S M L XL) and ties go to the oldest
  • the author's own 👍 and bots don't count and votes never move anything into a safer group
  • CI comes from the latest run of each workflow so a title lint that failed and then passed isn't failing
  • needs CI approval marks pull requests whose workflows wait for approval since that click is all that blocks most of them
🟢 Low risk: only UI, docs or tests, under 250 lines (37)
  #859 XS 👍1 fix: fix profile follow button for users who follow you
  #1053 XS 👍1 needs CI approval fix: put Starred in the mobile bottom menu
  #574 S 👍1 needs CI approval fix: make website and sponsors links clickable in the github profile

⏸ Waiting on the author (114)
  draft: #558 #608 #648 #815 #879 #1169
  failing CI: #467 #699

Validation

Independent review

  • read-only Claude agent: CODE PASS on base 80cca8f4 head 92dce565 after FAIL rounds that caught a CI marker hidden by the CodeRabbit status and an old failed lint run outliving a newer pass and bot votes counting

Limitations

  • needs gh 2.48+ (for --slurp) and jq
  • CHANGES_REQUESTED stays until the reviewer looks again so a pull request that already addressed it still shows as waiting on the author

Summary by CodeRabbit

  • New Features
    • Added a pull request review queue that groups open requests into low-risk, middle, critical, and waiting categories. It highlights requests needing CI approval and sorts ready requests by size, community votes, and age.
    • Pull request descriptions can receive 👍 votes to move requests higher within their risk group. Votes from the author are excluded.

Merge Risk: Low · up to 92dce

The queue is read-only and broadly mergeable, but it can show a PR with a failing external check as ready. Maintainers using older GitHub CLI versions also cannot run it as documented. Fix those bounded issues or accept them before merging.

Before / after behavior

  • observed — Modified behavior in README.md: Adds guidance on voting for pull requests, excluding the author’s vote, and using .github/pr-queue.sh to list open pull requests by risk and move them up within their group.
  • observed — Modified behavior in .github/pr-queue.sh: Adds a read-only gh/jq PR queue script. It paginates open PRs in batches of 50, derives size from additions plus deletions, and counts non-bot 👍 reactions excluding the author. It groups check suites by workflow and uses each group’s latest conclusion to determine approval and waiting status. Waiting classification checks draft, merge conflicts, failing or timed-out CI, then requested changes. Remaining PRs are assigned critical status for at least 1,000 changed lines, more than 100 changed files, or a matching critical path; otherwise, PRs under 250 lines whose paths all match the UI/tests/Markdown patterns are low risk, with all others in the middle tier. Ready PRs are sorted by tier, size minus votes, and creation time, then printed with ti

Full details: Title check

Explanation

The title "chore: add a script that lists open pull requests from low risk to critical" matches the main change: the new read-only maintainer script .github/pr-queue.sh that groups open PRs by risk tier (low risk, review, critical) plus a waiting-on-author list. The title is concise, specific, and omits the secondary 👍 vote-ordering and README changes, which is acceptable. The "chore:" prefix is a conventional-commit type and does not affect the assessment.

Full details: Docstring Coverage

Explanation

No eligible functions found in the changed files. Skipping docstring coverage check. Docstring coverage is scoped to functions touched by this diff. Documentation-only edits and deletions within surviving functions are included; unchanged diff context and fully deleted functions are excluded. Analyzed 0 functions across 1 files. (1 skipped: 1 unsupported.)

Building CI checks with a GitHub App - GitHub Docs

<location>https://docs.github.com/en/apps/creating-github-apps/writing-code-for-a-github-app/building-ci-checks-with-a-github-app</location>
<excerpt>citeturn1search2 [wordlim: 200] Crawled: 2 days ago; The tutorial shows how to build and configure a GitHub App to act as a server that receives and responds to `check_run` and `check_suite` webhook events using GitHub's REST API. ... Checks include check runs, check suites, and commit statuses. ... This event lets the apps know that code was pushed to the repository, and that GitHub has automatically created a new check suite.
CI servers can even build and deploy code to staging or production servers. For examples of the types of CI tests you can create with a GitHub App, see the continuous integration apps that are available in GitHub Marketplace.

### About checks

GitHub's REST API allows you to set up CI tests (checks) that are automatically run against each code commit in a repository. The API reports detailed information about each check in the pull request's Checks tab on GitHub. You can use checks in a repository to determine when a code commit introduces errors.

Checks include check runs, check suites, and commit statuses.

  * A check run is an individual CI test that runs on a commit.
  * A check suite is a group of check runs.
  * A commit status marks the state of a commit, for example `error`, `failure`, `pending`, or `success`, and is visible in a pull request on GitHub. Both check suites and check runs contain commit statuses.

GitHub automatically creates `check_suite` events for new code commits in a repository using the default flow, although you can change the default settings. For more information, see REST API endpoints for check suites. Here's how the default flow works:

  1. When someone pushes code to the repository, GitHub automatically sends the `check_suite` event with an action of `requested` to all GitHub Apps installed on the repository that have the `checks:write` permission. This event lets the apps know that code was pushed to the repository, and that GitHub has automatically created a new check suite.
  2. When your app receives this event, it can add check runs to that suite.
  3. Your check runs can include annotations that are displayed on specific lines of code. Annotations are visible in the Checks tab. When you create an annotation for a file that is part of the pull request, the annotations are also shown in the Files changed tab. For more information, see the `annotations` object in REST API endpoints for check runs.

For more information about checks, see REST API endpoints for checks and Using the REST API to interact with checks.

# Using workflow run logs

You can view, search, and download the logs for each job in a workflow run.

## In this article

  * Viewing logs to diagnose failures
  * Searching logs
  * Downloading logs
  * Deleting logs
  * Viewing logs with GitHub CLI

You can see whether a workflow run is in progress or complete from the workflow run page. You must be logged in to a GitHub account to view workflow run information, including for public repositories. For more information, see Access permissions on GitHub.

If the run is complete, you can see whether the result was a success, failure, canceled, or neutral. If the run failed, you can view and search the build logs to diagnose the failure and re-run the workflow. You can also view billable job execution minutes, or download logs and build artifacts.

GitHub Actions use the Checks API to output statuses, results, and logs for a workflow. GitHub creates a new check suite for each workflow run. The check suite contains a check run for each job in the workflow, and each job includes steps. </excerpt>

Keep non-Actions check suites separate by app.

GitHub permits CheckSuite.workflowRun to be null for check suites created outside GitHub Actions. jq then places all such suites in one null-key group. A later SUCCESS or pending suite with a null conclusion can hide another app's FAILURE or TIMED_OUT result. Line 36 then does not mark the pull request as failing CI, and line 43 includes it in the ready list.

Keep last for workflow groups, but use the app ID for non-Actions suites. Use the suite ID when the app is also absent.

Review comment at @.github/pr-queue.sh at line 32:
Update the checkSuites query and $suites grouping so workflow suites remain
grouped by workflow name, while suites without a workflow are grouped by app ID
and suites without an app are grouped by suite ID; select the id and app.id
fields needed for this grouping, and retain last.conclusion for each group.

## gh api

    `gh api <endpoint> [flags]
    `

Makes an authenticated HTTP request to the GitHub API and prints the response.

The endpoint argument should either be a path of a GitHub API v3 endpoint, or `graphql` to access the GitHub API v4.

Placeholder values `{owner}`, `{repo}`, and `{branch}` in the endpoint argument will get replaced with values from the repository of the current directory or the repository specified in the `GH_REPO` environment variable. Note that in some shells, for example PowerShell, you may need to enclose any value that contains `{...}` in quotes to prevent the shell from applying special meaning to curly braces.

The `-p/--preview` flag enables opting into previews, which are feature-flagged, experimental API endpoints or behaviors. The API expects opt-in via the `Accept` header with format `application/vnd.github.<preview-name>-preview+json` and this command facilitates that via `--preview <preview-name>`. To send a request for the corsair and scarlet witch previews, you could use `-p corsair,scarlet-witch` or `--preview corsair --preview scarlet-witch`.

The default HTTP request method is `GET` normally and `POST` if any parameters were added. Override the method with `--method`.

Pass one or more `-f/--raw-field` values in `key=value` format to add static string parameters to the request payload. To add non-string or placeholder-determined values, see `-F/--field` below. Note that adding request parameters will automatically switch the request method to `POST`. To send the parameters as a `GET` query string instead, use `--method GET`.

The `-F/--field` flag has magic type conversion based on the format of the value:

  * literal values `true`, `false`, `null`, and integer numbers get converted to appropriate JSON types;
  * placeholder values `{owner}`, `{repo}`, and `{branch}` get populated with values from the repository of the current directory;
  * if the value starts with `@`, the rest of the value is interpreted as a filename to read the value from. Pass `-` to read from standard input.

For GraphQL requests, all fields other than `query` and `operationName` are interpreted as GraphQL variables.

To pass nested parameters in the request payload, use `key[subkey]=value` syntax when declaring fields. To pass nested values as arrays, declare multiple fields with the syntax `key[]=value1`, `key[]=value2`. To pass an empty array, use `key[]` without a value.

To pass pre-constructed JSON or payloads in other formats, a request body may be read from file specified by `--input`. Use `-` to read from standard input. When passing the request body this way, any parameters specified via field flags are added to the query string of the endpoint URL.

In `--paginate` mode, all pages of results will sequentially be requested until there are no more pages of results. For GraphQL requests, this requires that the original query accepts an `$endCursor: String` variable and that it fetches the `pageInfo{ hasNextPage, endCursor }` set of fields from a collection. Each page is a separate JSON array or object. Pass `--slurp` to wrap all pages of JSON arrays or objects into an outer JSON array.

### Options

`--allow-escape-sequences`
`--slurp`
    Use with "--paginate" to return an array of all pages of either JSON arrays or objects
`-t`, `--template <string>`
    Format JSON output using a Go template; see "gh help formatting"

    Include full HTTP request and response in the output

Document the tool requirements for .github/pr-queue.sh.

The script uses gh api graphql --paginate --slurp and pipes the response to jq. GitHub CLI added --slurp in version 2.48.0. Add both requirements to the README instruction.
