fix(tooltip): Dismiss tooltip when an interactive target is activated with the keyboard - #4222
Keyboard activation now dismisses the tooltip without hiding it while the user types into a nested text field, and a pending show timer cannot reopen the tooltip after activation.
Release Category
Components
Changes
Check the key event target for text-entry elements while retaining the interactive wrapper check.
Clear the pending show timer before dismissing on Enter or Space.
Add regression tests for nested text entry and activation before the show delay.
Validation
Before the fix, both new regression tests failed in yarn vitest run modules/react/tooltip/spec/Tooltip.spec.tsx (17 passed, 2 failed).
After the fix, the same focused suite passed (19/19).
* feat!: Update type to use Sana Sans
* docs: Update font related docs
* ci: Test code rabbit
* fix: Scope Sana Sans font override to Sana theme only
Move --cnvs-sys-font-family-default override from :root to
[data-theme="sana-canvas"] so the canvas theme correctly uses Roboto
via the system token cascade instead of Sana Sans globally.
We can remove this declaration completely once type tokens are updated.
* docs: Use token-driven font family for sana sans
Set data-theme="sana-canvas" on <html> in preview and manager frames
so that --cnvs-sys-font-family-default resolves to Sana Sans via the token
cascade.
Also sets an explicit data-theme on CanvasProvider so that
CK components correctly override the inherited sana font when the
theme is set to "canvas".
* chore: Remove unneeded CSS variable override
Also set fallback to Roboto when theme is not sana
* fix: correctly inject font-face rules in Stackblitz entry
Spreading a CSSObject[] into an object produces numeric keys, not valid
CSS. Call injectGlobal once per font entry instead.
* chore: Update other injectGlobal to properly handle fonts
* chore: Update injectGlobal
* chore: Use full font name in font-face font-family
Aligns the font-family declaration name with the token fallback value defined in
canvas-tokens-web (--cnvs-sys-font-family-default).
* chore: Remove unneeded font token overrides
* fix: restore Roboto font-family override for canvas theme
data-theme is applied to the CanvasProvider div, not <html>, but
Storybook's preview-head.html sets data-theme="sana-canvas" on <html>.
This means --cnvs-base-font-family-50 is always inherited as Sana Sans
by all children, including the canvas-themed story container.
There is no [data-theme="canvas"] rule in canvas-tokens-web that resets
the base font token, so we need this override.
* chore: Change theme name in menu to "Sana Canvas"
* chore: Add fonts submodule to modules/react barrel file
* chore: Remove fonts submodule export from barrel file
This reverts commit 64e5d56.
* feat: Adjust card heading size and spacing
* feat: Update text color and border color tokens
* fix: Set card heading bottom spacing using gap
Also remove bottom margin on card header.
* feat: Add corner-shape as progressive enhancement
* chore: Remove unneeded export
* chore: Remove sana tokens in favor of system (default)
* refactor: Move corner shape to common as stencil
* fix: Set corner shape var via stencil.vars
* feat: Add override for Popup card heading font size
* docs: Add upgrade guide note on corner-shape

Adds a new KBD component to the Canvas Labs package for rendering keyboard shortcuts.

Release Note:
A new `KBD` component has been added to the Canvas Labs (`@workday/canvas-kit-labs-react`) package for rendering keyboard shortcuts.
### BREAKING CHANGES

* docs: Remove theme toggle
* docs: Set Sana Canvas theme as default in Storybook
Docs view previously fell back to the Canvas theme because the
CanvasProvider decorator only wraps individual `<Story>` blocks, not
the surrounding MDX prose. Moved the theme toggle to `<html>` itself
(preview-head.html/manager-head.html) so it covers both view modes.
* feat: Add initial Avatar color token updates
Update color tokens for amber, blue, and purple colors
in addition to base colors.
* feat: Add new magenta and green colors for Avatar

* docs: Add v16 upgrade guide note for Avatar
* test: Add temp visual test for windows high contrast mode

* ci: Retrigger GH actions
* feat: Add Windows High Contrast outline support for static avatars
Adds a 1px transparent outline on static avatars, removed when nested in or rendered as a
button/link, with a focus-only ring when Avatar is the interactive element.
Also removes the temporary visual test that was added for a11y review.

useTooltip now hides the tooltip when Enter or Space is pressed on an interactive target, except when the event target is a text-entry element. Tests cover dismissal, text-entry behavior, delayed display prevention, and forwarding the keydown event to the wrapped component.

Explanation
Issue #4221 requires Enter and Space activation to dismiss the tooltip for interactive targets while preserving normal focus, blur, Escape, and pointer behavior. useTooltip adds keyboard handling, clears the pending show timer, and hides the tooltip. It excludes text-entry targets so typing in nested text fields does not dismiss the tooltip. The added tests cover Enter, Space, nested text entry, pending-show cancellation, and wrapped handler invocation.

Treat contentEditable hosts as text entry in isTextEntryElement.
A focusable contentEditable target with tabindex of 0 or more is treated as an interactive target. Space or Enter typed into it hides the tooltip. isTextEntryElement checks only textarea and input, so it does not exclude contentEditable. Typing in the editor therefore dismisses the tooltip, which the text-entry exception is meant to prevent. The tooltip stays hidden until the target is focused again or hovered again.
Suggested fix
const isTextEntryElement = (element: Element) => {
const tagName = element.tagName.toLowerCase();
+ if ((element as HTMLElement).isContentEditable) {+ return true;+ }+
if (tagName === 'textarea') {
return true;
}

Hi @jay23606 ! Thanks for contributing a fix to the bug I reported. Bug fixes like this need to be based on the support branch and merged back in that way. Would you mind moving your work here over to the support branch?
Hi @jay23606 ! Uh oh, it looks like your branch might still be based on master and why we are seeing so many commits and 500+ changed files.
At this point, it might be best to create a fresh branch off of support and cherry-pick your commits from here, and open a clean PR. Thanks again and sorry for any inconvenience!
